Junior C Championship: Clonmore 5-17 Leighlinbridge 0-5

The Juniors led from pillar to post in this lively Championship encounter in Woodside on Wednesday evening last.

Surprisingly, considering the final winning margin, the first quarter was very competitive and Clonmore only led by 0-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. But two quick goals by Sean Tompkins and Dylan Doyle immediately after the water break ended the game as a contest. These two players shared the scoring plaudits - Doyle finishing with 1-6 and Tompkins 2-1 – with midfielder Paddy Byrne who scored an impressive 1-2 and Eoin Connolly who swung over 0-3 with his trusty left foot.

The half-time score was 2-8 to 0-1 and Clonmore’s three second half goals came from Sean T, Paddy Byrne and Willie Rooney.

Clonmore look to have a lively young squad but sterner tests lie ahead – starting with Eire Óg in Páirc Uí Briain on Wednesday next at 7.30pm.
