Lotto Sponsored by Finches

John Hardiman, Regional Manager, United Beverages, Oranmore

Throughout the history of Mellows the Hardiman family has had a strong association with our club from both a playing and administrative perspective. John is a Galway man of Claddagh stock.  His father Frank is a Bohermore man and his uncle Patsy is a former Mellows hurler, winning County Championships in 1954 and 1955.

Thus, it was not surprising in the mid 1990’s when the club was seeking a sponsor that John Hardiman and Connacht Minerals as it was known then came on board. Throughout the last 10 years many changes have taken place in our club and also within the drinks industry, which has seen a change in ownership of Connacht Minerals which now operates under the Finches brand.   Despite this John has continued to be a loyal sponsor of our club and indeed the Finches brand has a strong association with the clubs weekly lotto in what must be the longest lotto sponsorship deal in the country. Finches have also sponsored the clubs annual calendar as well as contributing on an ad-hoc basis to many other activities within the club, e.g. Race night at Galway Greyhound Track where they were our main sponsor, Golf Society, etc.

If you speak with any of the clubs officers who have had dealings with John it is always in a positive manner.  John is a very approachable man and his kindness to the club is much appreciated.
