On The Juvenile Front - It was an eleven-goal fest at the Superbowl in Leighlinbridge on Saturday, with the U14 `s defeating Vale Wanderers 4 – 7. The lads lead 1- 4 at the break, thanks to a brace each, from Callum Brennan and Jack Corcoran. In the second half, from Jack Corcoran`s perfect in-swinging corners, they scored three further goals: first found Craig Burgess in space and he smashed home through a crowded defence; his second caused havoc in the Vale defence and ball found the back of the net and his third, found Callum Brennan at the back post and a super finish to complete his hat-trick, to reward a good team performance.
Slaney Rovers In Carlow Shield Final – Neighbours Parkville started the stronger and forced a series of corners, in which defender Regan Murphy won the aerial battles, while Mick Foley got the tackles in, to clear any danger. For the first half -hour Parkville defence reduced Slaney to half-chances but all that changed following some good build-up play between Adam Keogh and Lubohir Lesko and a super finish from Dominic Byrne to lead at half-time. After the break, with the visitors pressing for an equaliser, Lubohir Lesko won back possession and put a simple ball over the high back line for the in-running Adam Keogh to smash home to the bottom corner for 2-0 on 58 minutes. Midfielder Conor o`Brien ran at the defence and evaded two tackles, to fire home for 3-0 on 77 minutes. Late in the game, Shane Murphy headed home an in-swinging corner from Joe Thompson for 4-0, in what was a super team performance and the best yet on home soil and it will live long into the memory.
