Ex Slaney Making Headlines: Slaney ex U-11 Marie O`Callaghan scored the only goal of the game on debut for the Wexford Youth`s U-19`s as they beat Bohemians 1-0 away, as she stepped up from their U-17 team.
Slaney`s First Senior League Title:Well done to the over 35s who recently secured the club`s first senior league title. Despite conceding 20 minutes in, the lads showed what it took to win the league and never lost faith, as they turned up the pressure in the second-half creating chance after chance before Declan Brennan effort levelled matters in the last minute. The game went to penalties with Mark Ryan, Dan O`Brien, Dominic Byrne, Tom Tallon and Peter Kehoe all calmly slotted home their spot-kicks, and more importantly, `keeper Fergal Harmon played a captain`s part when he superbly turned a St. Fiacc`s penalty onto the post, to win 4-5 in the shoot-out- no more than they deserved.
Result: Carlow Shield; Slaney Rovers 3 – 3 St. Patricks: The O35`s `never say attitude` must have rubbed off on the A team, as they came from 0-3 down at half-time, to share six goals with premier side St. Patricks. A long-range effort from Daniel O`Brien, Rory McKernan blasted home from six yards and Dominic Byrne, despite the presence of the `keeper, got the final touch for 3-3, in a game St. Pats had to win to progress in the Shield.
