Lotto numbers drawn on Monday 2 September were 10, 15, 24 and 27. There was no Jackpot winner. Huge disappointment for the seniors as they lost by the slenderest of margins to Village FC, in what was a fiercely competitive league play-off decider.Village, with the strong wind at their backs in the first-half, dominated possession and were wide with their first effort on five minutes, got closer on 20 minutes when they hit the woodwork before making the break-through from a long range effort on 27 minutes to lead 1-0 at the break. With the wind in the second-half, Slaney came more into the contest with Gary Halpin getting onto the end of a Peter Keogh free kick but could not find the target. Later on the normally reliable Declan Brennan shot wide from close range. Plenty of dogged defending by Village denied late efforts from David Nolan and Tony Carthy, as they held on to win their first ever senior title. The Carlow Shield kicks off this weekend as Slaney host Kilree Celtic on Sunday at 11.am.
