Club notes week ending 21st June

Hi Members,

Please find below the club notes from Watergrasshill Hurling Club for week ending 21st June.

Weekly round-up

Rebel Óg East/North/Mid Fe14 Div 1 Hurling Championship Final:

Watergrasshill 5-8 (23) St. Catherine’s 4-14 (26)

Hard luck to our U14’s in their championship final last Thursday evening. The lads put in a savage second half performance but the clock was their enemy. Playing against a tricky breeze in the first half the lads went in at the break 2-10 to 1-0 down. It would have been easy to let a 13 point deficit affect the mood but to their credit they showed great heart and fight in the second half. Right from the throw in they tore into it and set about reducing the deficit. With a few minutes to go they were within two and went in search of that elusive goal that would tipped the scales. They came close but in the end St. Catherine’s hung on and took the spoils by 3 points. Hats off to the Hill boys, clearly disappointed at the end, every one of them should be proud of their effort and can hold their heads up high.

Our U-12 boys came away with a great win in Aghada on Monday evening in the first game of Phase 2 of the U-12 league. As the saying goes “goals win games” and this certainly was the case with the boys finding the net on 4 occasions. Having lost to Aghada through a last minute goal in the grading games, it was nip and tuck throughout again this time with two very evenly matched sides. It was our turn to get the last minute goal on this occasion, so well done to the boys on getting the win and best of luck for the remainder of their games against Cobh and Youghal.

On the adult side, unfortunately there were losses for both our Intermediates and Juniors against Ballyhea and Cobh respectively. The hard work continues for the Intermediates, who face a strong Kilworth side next week. Everyone is behind Pat, Jason and the lads, a side in transition with massive potential and we’re sure their hard work will bear fruit soon.

Finally – best of luck to our U-17 team who can hopefully claim some silverware in their East Cork Shield Final on Tuesday evening. It’s been a fragmented couple of years for this group with little or no action during COVID and with the removal of the U-18 age-group, game time for some of the group has been limited so we wish them well.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavour to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can help.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 10, 16, 25 & 29. Lucky dip winners are Ber O’Callaghan, Gerry Fenton, Brian Fenton & Paul Kingston. Congrats to you all. Next week's jackpot is €2,300 and draw will take place Monday 27th April. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny's Shop and our new Lotto stand in Ross's Centra. Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.
