Tinryland 0-11 Eire Og 1-13
Despite another loss by our 2nd 15 to Eire Og’s 3rd squad there were some positives to take from this 5th round game at Rathcrogue on Saturday last.
Tinryland despite missing a number of key players for various reasons were competitive throughout against unbeaten Eire Og in a sporting game.
The home team got off to a good start with excellent scores from Sam Byrne and Jamie Walker with the latter score the product of good play by Conor Byrne.
Eire Og got on the scoreboard with a Jacob Curran point in the 4th minute and one minute later Corey Harmon landed a ’45 to level matters. More good work by Jamie Walker resulted in an Eoin Townsend point in the 7th minute but in converting this score Eoin was injured and had to be replaced by John Dempsey. The tempo of the game kept rising and a brilliant Jacob Curran goal in the 8th minute put the YI’S ahead for the first time before Corey Harmon scored a beauty of a two pointer to stretch the lead for the men from Teach Asca. Mid Way through the first half Sam Byrne who was really on his game pointed for Tinryland with Eire Og replying with an Anthony Keating point. Another two pointer from Harmon stretched the town team’s lead to 6 points in the 20th minute before Conall McGuire did likewise for Tinryland. The first half ended with Alan Barrett for Tinryland and Shane Gurhy for Eire Og trading points which left the half time scoreboard reading Eire Og 1-9 Tinryland 0-7 when Rathvilly referee Brian Deering called for the break.
After such a high tempo first half scoring chances dropped a little in the 2nd half with Alan Barrett scoring Tinryland’s first point after 30 seconds quickly followed by 3 Eire Og points from Shane Gurhy, Liam Ryan and Ivan Murphy. Tinryland continued to be competitive and notched 3 further points from Conor Brennan, Conor Byrne and Glen Doyle as Eire Og sprang a number of replacements from the bench with Liam Ryan’s 14th minute point their last in the game.
Tinryland will be back in action at home to Rathvilly on this coming Friday at 8 p.m. in a re-fixture while Eire Og will play table toppers Mount Leinster Rangers on Saturday 25th April in an attempt to maintain their unbeaten record.
