Fighting Cocks 3-8 Tinryland 0-4
The Fighting Cocks hoovered up the Carlow Credit Union SFL league div 3 points against Tinryland’s 2nd 15 at a blustery Rathcrogue on Sunday morning. The current Carlow junior (A) champions and Leinster finallists are operating two grades ahead of Tinryland at championship level and their status showed in this game.
The home side was first to register a score when Sean Murphy slotted over a point in the opening minute but the Cocks response was swift with 2 Aaron Dowling points followed by their opening goal from corner forward Cian O’Byrne. Tinryland with wind advantage did have numerous chances but wayward shooting until the last minute of the half kept them scoreless. Jamie Doyle was the only other home team scorer in the first half with a point in the 32nd minute. Meanwhile the Cocks added to their tally with a 2nd goal from centre back William Kelly and a further point from Dylan Ruane. Half time score Fighting Cocks 2-3 Tinryland 0-2.
The 2nd half saw the Cocks with wind advantage add 4 further points to their tally in the opening 10 minutes via Aaron Dowling (2), Billy Molloy and Dylan Ruane. Tinryland finally got on the 2nd half scoresheet with a Mikey Byrne point in the 43rd minute but the Cocks capped a good display with a 3rd goal via William Kelly with substitute Aidan Brophy closing the scoring for the team from Rathoe parish with a point in the 51st minute. Tinryland midfielder Sean Murphy got Tinryland’s 4th point in the closing stages. Tinryland will be back in action on Saturday next 21st March at home to Rathvilly at 7.30 p.m. while Fighting Cocks will be at home to Mount Leinster Rangers at 7 p.m. on this coming Friday 20th March.
