St Lomans GAA Club Notes 11/10/2021:
Senior Ladies Championship:
St Lomans Mullingar 0-04 St Mary’s Rochfortbridge 1-09
Last Saturday afternoon our Senior Ladies welcomed back-to-back County Champions St Mary’s Rochfortbridge to Lakepoint Park. The visitors outscored the Blues 1-04 to a single point from Ciara Blundell in the first quarter. The early stages proved to be decisive as the Hosts matched their counterparts for long periods of the match. At half-time The Bridge lead by 1-05 to a single point to leave Lomans with plenty of work to do in the second half.
The Blues started the second half very well with points from Rachel McKenna, Bridgie Heslin and Ciara Blundell to bring the deficit back to four points. In truth Lomans had plenty of possession but ultimately failed to make it count on the scoreboard. A late rally from the Visitors brought a final score of 1-09 to 0-04. The result of this means The Blues finish second in the group and now face last year’s runner-up Milltown in the semi-final, with St Mary’s facing Garrycastle on the other side of the draw.
On the day our girls were very competitive against an excellent side and on another day the score-line could have been much tighter. For the Blues Muireann Scally and Ella Daly performed well in the backs. Rachel McKenna, Julie McLaughlin and Ciara Blundell were also lively in the forwards. From the subs bench Megan Ennis made a big difference when she was introduced. The Semi Final will be played in two weeks’ time with venue and time to be confirmed.
