Tinryland GFC Notes 5th March 2026

The competitive season began in the past week for both adult and juvenile teams with mixed success.

First in action was the U16 team in the spring league against O’Hanrahans on Tuesday last where Tinryland recorded a comfortable win on a score of 3-16 to 2-5. Outstanding for the boys in hoops were Dan Keogh, Shay Ryan, Ryan Moore, Rian Nolan and Philip Adamczyk.

The U16s will be back in action on Tuesday 24th March with a home tie against St. Patricks at 7.30 p.m.

At U18 level Tinryland travelled to McGrath Park to take on Bagenalstown Gaels in a game played in difficult weather conditions. In a game of 2 halves Tinryland with the elements in their favour led by 1-10 to 0-4 at the interval and they did well to withstand a tremendous Gaels revival to run out winners by 1-11 to 0-10. Outstanding for Tinryland were Jamie Doyle, Callum O’Brien-Murphy, Walter Webb, Macdara Deane and Mikey Byrne. The U18 team will next be in action on Thursday 26th March at 6.30 p.m. against Clonmore in Rathcrogue.

The underage management teams for the coming year are now in place and are as follows:

U8/U10: Philip Nolan, Gillian Duggan, Shane Duggan, James Egan, John Murphy (Linkardstown), Annette Meaney, Brian Byrne, David Burke, Aishlinn Whelan.

U12: Niall Barrett, Mick O’Brien, Damien Power, John Paul Moore.

U14: Keith McGrath, Bobby Doyle, Alan Cullen, Colm Purcell, John Paul Moore.

U16: Graham Nolan, Mick Ryan, Cian Moore, John Paul Moore.

U18: Mick Kehoe, Greg Doyle, Clive Byrne, Paddy Regan, Maurice Lawler, Paul Broderick

Tinryland the current Div 1 champions began the defence of their Carlow Credit Union league title away to Eire Og on Friday last and despite a very good opening quarter they lost out in the end to a fast-moving home team who scored 3 goals in the first half. Tinryland will be back in action at home to Rathvilly on Thursday 26th March at 7.30 p.m.

The clubs 2nd adult team competing in division 3 lost out to a strong Fighting cocks outfit in Rathcrogue on Sunday last. This team will be at home to Rathvilly on Saturday next 21st March at 7.30 p.m.

The club lotto jackpot draw takes place every Monday evening at 8.30 p.m. with the current jackpot still standing at €10,000. Last week’s lucky dip winners were: P.J Murphy, Diarmaid Walshe, Conor Ryan and Stephen Dowling.
