Eire Og 3- 11 Tinryland 1-9
Tinryland began life as an Intermediate team but still in the top tier of the league against old rivals Eire Og at Pairc Ui Bhrian on Friday 13th March.
The opening 10 minutes of this game saw Tinryland burst from the traps scoring 5 unanswered points in the opening 10 minutes in their first competitive game since losing their senior status against the same opposition last November. Ross Moran, Conor O’Brien and the returning Rory Doyle were all successful with point attempts in the opening 5 minutes and by the 10th minute the men in blue and white were 5 points ahead following further points from Rory Doyle and Lorcan O’Connor. Tinryland’s purple patch ended abruptly in a sixty second spell between the 12th and 13th minutes when a defensive error and another Eire Og raid by Shane Buggy cancelled out Tinrylands good first 10 minutes work. The men from Teach Asca added a further major plus 4 points to their tally in the 2nd quarter via Darragh O’Brien and points from Adam Murphy, O’Brien (2) and Murphy again while Tinryland could only manage one further point before half time from Ross Moran which was one of the scores of the game. Half Time Eire Og 3-4 Tinryland 0-6.
The 2nd half was only seconds old when Eire Og were awarded a penalty, but Shane Buggys attempt hit the upright and Tinryland got a temporary reprieve. Eire Og continued to pile on the pressure scoring 3 unanswered points in the following 5 minutes from Shane Buggy, Adam Murphy and Darragh O’Brien before Maurice Lawler added to Tinryland’s tally before retiring to be replaced by Jamie Doyle. The Tinryland minor player was only seconds on the field when he slotted over another Tinryland point as Mikey Byrne entered the fray as Tinryland’s 2nd sub.
Eire Og substitute Ivan Murphy then got on the scoring act with a well taken point in the 42nd minute which extended his sides advantage to 9 points and when Darragh O’Brien scored the only two pointer in this sporting game the home side appeared to be cruising against the current league champions who were having their first outing of the year. To their credit Tinryland continued to remain competitive and they were rewarded in the 49th minute with a successful Jamie Doyle penalty. The closing stages saw both sides trade points and give game time to substitutes Adam Mullen, Sam Byrne and Shay McCullough for Tinryland. Eire Og lost their goalkeeper Corey Harmon to a black card in the latter stages while wing forward Diarmaid Ruth was forced to retire with a leg injury in the opening half to be replaced by Reece Denieffe.
Tinryland’s next league game will be a home tie against Rathvilly on Thursday 26th March at 7.30 p.m.
