Fighting Cocks triumph in Division 5

S.F.L. Division 5

                        Fighting Cocks 2-20                                                     Tinryland 1-6

Tinryland’s 3rd team struggled for numbers before this 2nd round league game against a Fighting Cocks outfit made up of youth and experience. Tinryland were further hampered mid- way through the opening half when goalkeeper Lee Buggle was forced to retire following a nasty ankle injury.

The Fighting Cocks meanwhile dominated the first half scoring building up a 1-10 to 0-0 lead courtesy of a Ruairi Nevin goal in the 28th minute and a succession of points from Matty Dowling (3), Ruairi Nevin (2), Dylan Ruane (2) and Bill Eustace, Padraig Eustace and D J Sinnott.

Ruairi Nevin added a further point at the start of the 2nd half before Tinryland enjoyed a productive period with points from Ruairi Scully, and Tomas Murphy and a successful penalty despatched by Keelan Quigley.

The Rathoe parish team quickly regained their momentum slotting over further points from Ben O’Gorman (2), Matty Dowling (2) and Ruairi Nevin before Tomas Murphy scored another good point for the hosts. The final stages saw Tinryland replacement goalie Adam Buggle make a wonderful save before the 2nd half scoring was completed with another Cocks goal and a point from Des McDonald and further Tinryland points from Keelan Quigley, Mark Dempsey and Tomas Murphy.

Tinryland will be back in action on Wednesday next 2nd April at 7.30 p.m. at home to Old Leighlin while on the following Wednesday 9th April Tinryland will be away to Railyard in Moneenroe
