The new century – 2000 on

The new century has heralded major developments at the club grounds with the pitch being levelled, work on dressing rooms, showers, gymnasium etc, floodlighting installed and most recently an adjoining field purchased as an additional playing pitch.

On the field, Clonmore has continued to compete with hope and fervour in recent years. The century started with narrow defeats in the 2000 League final by Eire Og, the 2001 Championship semi-final by Palatine and the 2005 All County League final by Kildavin. After dropping from Senior to Intermediate in 2005, the Intermediate team have been putting in a huge effort in recent years, falling at the semi-final stage in 2006 and beaten in the final in 2007, 2008 (after a replay) and 2011. The Minors were very unlucky to narrowly lose the 2008 Championship semi-final to Eire Og.

2011 was a good year for the club with three cups won - pride of place going to the Minors for winning the Minor B Championship - the first C'ship victory since 1994. We also won the finals of SFL Divisions 2 and 4.

Building on the foundations laid in recent years, and with an abundance of emerging young talent, confidence is high that under trainer Paddy Molloy, the team can go all the way in 2012 by playing a brand of fast skillful football to suit the younger, lighter players on the current panel.

Lads like Ronan Doyle, Pauric Lawlor, Bobby Rooney, David Mulvany, Wesley & Gavin Byrne, Con Murphy, John Kelly, Enda McGrath and Jamie Walsh are maturing into good “senior” players. With the strength and experience of the likes of John McGrath, Paul Byrne, Owen Coleman and Collie McGrath to add to up & coming stars such as Shane Murphy, Niall Humphries, PJ Byrne, Willie Byrne, Mick Murray, Willie Rooney and Shane McGrath, there’s the making of a well balanced team. Having contested both the U-21 and Intermediate finals in 2011, we should have a great chance of winning these Championships this year.

The Juvenile club had an outstanding year and all teams competed with great enthusiasm and skill. The very active Committee organised training, blitzes and summer camps for players from U-6 to U-16 throughout a busy year and the club would like to thank Mrs Statia Doyle and the Purser family for their generosity in donating the James Doyle Cup and the Tommy Purser Cup to be competed for by U-8s and U-10s. Well done to all concerned.

Fund raising was again very successful in 2011 thanks to the continued support of the community for the club's weekly Lotto and Golf Classic. This support will enable the club to continue to develop the facilities at Woodside for the use of many generations of young people to come. The club would like to sincerely thank everyone who plays the Lotto for your unstinting generosity.

Best of luck to everyone in 2012.
