   Tinryland G.F.C. Club Notes 7th April 2024

There was deep sadness in our club on Wednesday last when the news emerged of the passing of our former player and committee member Jim Murphy from Ballyloo. As a result of Jim’s passing the annual Andy Murphy shield final in memory of his father between Tinryland and Palatine was postponed as a mark of respect and will take place when the S.F.L. Division 1 game between the two teams is re-fixed. Jims funeral will take place on this Monday at 11 am to St Joseph’s Church Tinryland. The club extends its deepest sympathy to the extended Murphy family on Jims passing. Tinryland G.F.C. also extends deepest sympathy to the Carroll family and our neighbouring club Palatine on the recent passing of Pat Carroll.

Players from our sister club Bennekerry/Tinryland played a prominent role in Carlow’s great win over Limerick in the Lidl Division 4 league final in Birr on Saturday last. Ruth Bermingham was the captain and Maeve O’Neill scored the vital goal near the end assisted by BT player Sinead Hayden. Cliodhna Ni She was the player of the match while Elaine Ware was also involved with Shannen Cotter also part of the panel.

Due to the adverse weather conditions all games in the county were postponed over the weekend.

In the coming week our U18 team will be away to Asca on tomorrow Monday in the Presentation College grounds at 7 p.m. while on Saturday next our U12 red and green teams will host St. Patricks in Rathcrogue from 2 p.m. Our senior team are due to play Clonmore in round 6 of the S.F.L. Division 1 on Friday 19th April in Rathcrogue at 7.30 p.m. with further games away to Bagenalstown Gaels and at home to Palatine.

The club lotto jackpot currently stands at €6600 and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were: Pat Foster, Padraic Whelan, Michael Ryan and Bid Fields.

Details have recently been released for the staging of the 3rd annual South East juvenile football tournaments over 3 weekends in late June and early July. Over 1400 young players representing 96 boys and girl’s teams will participate and there are still a few spots available for club teams to enter in the U12, U14 and U16 games. Contact Peter Scully at 087 6992067 for further details.
