Senior Ladies Division 2 League:

St Lomans Mullingar 8-19 Caulry 0-05

Well done to our Senior ladies who comfortably beat Caulry last Sunday morning in home instead Lakepoint Park. Ciaran Kilmuarry’s side were head and shoulders above the opposition throughout and ran out heavy winners in it was a completely dominant performance. The work rate, intensity and fitness on show was very impressive as the Blues romped home in relentless fashion. In trith it was a brilliant team performance from all but Keelie Mulderry, Aileen Martin, Megan Ennis and Caoimhe Kilmurray all put in super displays. However, player of the match was undoubtedly Katie Kilmuarry who was magic and tore the Caulry defence to shreds at times, giving an exhibition in scoring. This victory gives the Saints a good chance of qualifying for a league final and securing passage back to division 1.

Feile 2023:

St Lomans made the short trip to Kinnegad to take part in this year’s feile. Having been successful in the previous 2 years, the blues were going for 3 in a row, so determination and focus were key in the group stages.

Lomans were joined in their 4-team group by Moate, Killucan and Cill oige. The blues faced Moate first in the warm sunshine and weren’t really troubled as they won comfortably in the quick 15 mins per game format.  Next up were Killucan who started brightly by getting an early goal, however the blues responded well and ran out winners.  The final group game was vs Cill oige who defended very well but couldn’t hold out as Lomans topped the group with 3 wins from 3

The semi-final was next for the girls up against St Marys Rochfortbridge.  Lomans were determined and focused against their opponents and ran out winners in a 15 min per half game.

All roads led to Cusack Park on bank holiday Monday where in a repeat of last years u14 championship final the girls faced Garrycastle. With the final being 20mins per half the girls knew a good start was required, and they duly obliged as Garrycastle couldn’t contain the blues, with the girls running out comfortable winners and thus claiming the 3 in a row.

A fantastic weekend of football culminated in joint captains Kate McDonnell and Katie Kilmurray lifting the trophy. Truth be told there was some dazzling football played with the link up and team work really catching the eye and over the 5 games the girls hit an amazing 64 scores in 115 mins of football while conceding just 1-4.

Next up for these girls will be the national feile in July.

Squad for the weekend was Katie McGrath, Rhianna Norris,Katie McDonnell,Eimear Doonan,Sarah Davitt,Emily McSherry,Erin Murray,Leah Keffernan,Norah Garry,Cliona McGinley,Chloe Cahill,Lana McDermott,Jane Charles,Shannon Breslin,Kate McDonnell,Katie Kilmurray,Evie Kilmurray,Bailey Casey,Isobel McCormack, Maddie Mulderry,Grainne Cleary,Eleanor Corcoran,Aibhe Gillic,Rachel Gouldsberry,Tegan Charles and Brooke Darby

ACFL Division 4:

St Lomans Mullingar 2-17 Milltownpass 3-16

Last Tuesday evening our division 4 side welcomed Milltownpass to Lakepoint Park. It was a thoroughly entertaining game, with both defences somewhat at sea. Our visitors began strongly with an early goal and point, but it was cancelled out with a Daniel McCann goal and a Tadhg Kenny point. The home side momentarily went ahead when Frank Kavanagh found the net, before Milltownpass responded with three points on the spin.

The sides then traded scores with Senan Russell and Frank Kavanagh on target for the blues. The Visitors regained the lead with their second goal but once again the saints responded with points from McCann and Kenny either side of a Kavanagh free. Milltownpass once again bounced back with a quickfire 1-01, before Kenny had the last word of the half to leave four between the teams at the interval.

Although there were to be no more goals in the second period, the frantic nature of the match continued with both sides playing a front foot brand of football. The third quarter saw the teams traded blows each with Kenny, McCann and Adam Lynch all on the scoresheet. Milltownpass extended the lead to five until the Mullingar men hit three unanswered points to reduce the arrears through a hat-trick of Daniel McCann free’s.

The opposition increased their lead briefly but another trio of points through McCann, Lynch and Kenny tied the match up with just five minutes to play. Both sides searched for a winner but ultimately it was Milltownpass who outscored the Blues three points to one in the final stretch to claim a two-point victory.

It must be said it was a thoroughly entertaining match, to watch with both sets of forwards on top. However, Lomans were made to pay for yet another poor start conceding three first half goals. Particularly Tadhg Kenny and Daniel McCann who were majestic up top. The blues now face an uphill battle to survive in division 4, with games against Rosemount, The Downs and Caulry to come.

Team; Rory Matthews, Senan Russell (0.01), Nigel Graham, Mark O’Gara, Tristan Johnson, Seanai Bracken, Adam O’Connor, Eoghan O’Keefe, Rory Sheahan, Eoghan Kenny, Adam Lynch (0.02), Luke Heduvan, Daniel McCann (1.07, 0.03f), Frank Kavanagh (1.01), Tadhg Kenny (0.05). Subs used; Darren Kavanagh, Shane Flynn, Evan Johnson, Adam Carroll, Shane Mulderry, Byron Graham.

Street League:

After weeks of preparation, St Lomans Street Leagues 2023 kicked off last Wednesday night. Featuring 250 boys and girls across 22 mixed teams, this is the biggest ever running of our Street Leagues.

The level of skill and determination on display across all of the pitches was terrific, with every game being keenly contested and no quarter given in the tussles between the boys and the girls.

Our thanks to the families that came out in large numbers to cheer on their teams, and help create such a great atmosphere for the games. No doubt ye enjoyed it every bit as much as the players did.

We are eagerly looking forward to round 2, which takes place next Wednesday evening.
