ACFL Division 1:

St Lomans Mullingar 3-18 Tang 0-08

Last Friday saw St Lomans Mullingar welcome Tang to Lakepoint Park on a perfect evening for football. The first third of the game was very cagey with both sides matching each other score for score, after twenty-three minutes the teams were level at four points apiece. The Blues scores coming from Tritsan Graham, Danny McCartan, TJ Cox and a super point from Sean Flanagan.

Tang’s resistance was broken before the interval, with the home side letting loose, scoring 1-04 on the bounce. TJ Cox got the scoring underway with a well-taken point before moments letter finding the net with a superb solo goal. Ryan Jones opened his account with a long-range point before Danny McCartan and Sean Flanagan added to their tallies leaving seven points between the teams at half-time.

The Saints had the luxury of introducing John Heslin, Shane Dempsey and Ronan O’Toole for the second period of play and it proved too much for our visitors. The Mullingar side started the second half as they finished the first hitting five unanswered points through Conor O’Donoghue, Ronan O’Toole, Peter Foy and a Shane Dempsey double. The visitors hit back through a well-taken free but placed balls from O’Toole and Dempsey, followed by a point from play by O’Toole extended the lead.

Tang once again got a point of their own, but it was met with a second goal for the hosts, a great team move culminated with Tristan Graham burying a powerful shot into the roof of the net to continue his excellent form. The sides traded scores late on with Dempsey at the double. A great team was rounded off when Ronan O’Toole capped off a superb cameo with the Blues’ third goal of the night to round off a dominant display.

Paddy Dowdall’s side continue their great form and remain unbeaten in this year’s league. His side also know that two wins against Shandonagh and Garrycastle in the final games would assure them of a place in the league final. On the night the class off the bench proved decisive as O’Toole and Dempsey did serious damage. Conor O’Donoghue and Gerry Grehan held the fort well at the back. Ryan Jones was excellent in midfield. TJ Cox and Danny McCartan were superb. Sean Flanagan has continued his excellent form in his new position in the full forward line.

ACFL Division 3:

St Lomans Mullingar 1-13 Bunbrosna 1-10

Our division three side continued their rich vein of form last Thursday night in Lakepoint park when they faced visitors Bunbrosna. The visitors got the scoring underway early with a free before the hosts took a commanding lead. It began with three points in a row from Paddy Dowdall, Tadhg Kenny and David Morgan respectively. Another placed ball for the visitors reduced the deficit before the saints pushed on again with six unanswered scores, three from David Morgan, two from Chris Gilbert and an Adam Lynch point doing the damage for the home side. Bunbrosna were reduced to fourteen men on the stroke of half time but remarkably the visitors had the better of the exchanges after the red card. The visitors even found the net before the break to reduce the arrears to four points.

The sides traded two scores each at the beginning of the half, the Blues’ points coming via a Paddy Dowdall double. David Morgan pointed for the hosts followed by a fisted point from Eoghan O’Keefe to extend their advantage. The Visitors responded with a point of their own to momentarily stem the tide, but Robbie Kenny’s side looked to have killed the game when Sean Lancaster’s effort found it’s way into the back of the net via a deflection. Worryingly, the fourteen-man visitors got the last five points of the match, leaving it a one score game in injury time. Thankfully, the Mullingar Men were able to close the game out for a three-point win.

Another good win for this team but they will be concerned at the amount of goal chances they spurned and equally, the amount of goal chances which were coughed up for the visitors in the second half. However, all in all it was a good performance against a seasoned outfit in Bunbrosna. On the day Paddy Dowdall, Sean Lancaster and Seanie Dinngean were the standout performers for Lomans.

Team; Rory Matthews, Evan Johnson, Shane Flynn, Sean Lancaster (1.00), Eoghan Hogan, Seanie Dinnegan, Tom Dorr, Paddy Dowdall (0.03), Eoghan O’Keefe (0.01), Adam Lynch (0.01), Chris Gilbert (0.02), Eoghan Kenny, Darren Kavanagh, David Morgan (0.05,0.1f), Tadhg Kenny (0.01). Subs used; Seanai Bracken, Adam O’Connor, Tristan Johnson, Mark O’Gara, Ethan Browne.
