Tinryland G.F.C. club notes 4th May 2025
Tinryland G.A.A. club was the race headquarters for the inaugural running of the Tinryland Village half marathon on Saturday last which proved to be a huge success. Great credit is due to the race director Gregg Murphy and his huge team of helpers that oversaw the smooth running of the 3- lap race over the Tinryland, Ballyloo and Ballybar circuit. A field of 250 runners faced the starter with victory in a sprint finish after 21.1 kilometres going to Wexford athlete Brendan Dunne S.B.R. A.C. Ferns who clocked a winning time of 1 hour 17 minutes which was 5 seconds clear of Kildare runner Gavin Kelly (Clane A.C). Michael Bagnall of Fr. Murphy athletic club Meath was the 3rd placed finisher with the first local Mick Kelly Tinryland A.C. finishing 4th in 1 hour 23 minutes to win the Paddy Byrne memorial cup.
In the womens race victory went to Kilkenny City Harrier Aoife Nolan in 1 hour 33 minutes which was 42 seconds ahead of Wexford runner Catherine Roche (Slaney Olympic) with another Slaney Olympic runner Jenny Frisby finishing 3rd.
Other local runners who finished the tough course were Ben Dowling (Tinryland A.C.) 1 hour 32 minutes, Brendan Dowling 1 hour 39 minutes, Joey Ryan 1 hour 42 minutes, Matthew Gleeson 1 h 48 minutes, Rick Whelan 1 hour 54 minutes, Niamh Redmond 2 hours flat, Ceola Webb 2 hours 43 seconds, Martin Kirwan 2 hours 4 minutes, Aideen McLaughlin 2 hours 9 minutes, Aine Murphy 2 hours 9 minutes, and Katie Barrett 2 hours 22 minutes.

This year’s event was capped at 300 runners and after the success of Saturdays race it is hoped to increase the numbers up to 500 for 2026. The recently opened Tinryland village hub helped to enhance the event where tea, coffees and refreshments were served. M.C. for the day was Michael Murphy.
