Ballon 4-21 Tinryland 0-2
It was all one- way traffic in this Carlow Credit Union division 3 game at Rathcrogue on Tuesday last when Ballon who are an Intermediate championship team took on Tinryland who will be batting at Junior (B) championship level this year. Ballon had no difficulty in despatching the challenge of Tinryland’s 2nd team who now have had to play a senior championship team (Mount Leinster Rangers) and an Intermediate championship squad in this division in the past month.
This game was over as a contest after only 15 minutes as Ballon built up a lead of 1-9 to 0-1 with their goal coming as early as the 2nd minute from full forward Corey Kelliher. Points from Corey Kelliher (5) including a 2 pointer and Callum Crawford (2), Brian Maher and Shane Duffy (2) put this game out of Tinryland’s reach who could only manage one point in the half from Conall O’Shea.
When referee Damien Brady sounded the half time whistle Ballon led by 2-13 to 0-1 with their second major coming from wing back Donnacha Murphy after 20 minutes.
The 2nd half followed the same trend as the first with another Ballon goal from substitute Billy Flynn arriving as early as the 32nd minute. Eoin Townsend scored Tinryland’s only 2nd half point in the 38th minute but from there to the finish it was all target practice for the team who will have Intermediate championship aspirations in 2025 and they added to their tally with a 4th goal from Corey Kelliher and a litany of points via Conor Bolger (2) Donncha Murphy, Callum Crawford, Billy Flynn (2), Rory O’Connor and top scorer Corey Kelliher who finished with a tally of 2-5.
