Tinryland defeat Clonmore in S.F.L Division 1

Carlow Credit Union S.F.L. Division 1

               Tinryland 0-14                                                           Clonmore 0-9

Tinryland seniors travelled to Woodside in Hacketstown on Easter Monday evening and came away with their 4th consecutive win in this year’s S.F.L Division 1.

Despite enjoying the lions share of possession the eventual winners were kept on their toes throughout by a dogged home side that never gave up.

Tinryland opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a Jamie Walker point after enjoying almost total possession from the throw in but this score was quickly cancelled by a similar score from Clonmores corner forward Conal Cullen. Clonmore edged ahead in the 11th minute when goalkeeper Jordan Kane converted a ’45 before Cormac Walshe for Tinryland levelled matters with a successful conversion in the 13th minute. Tinryland then went ahead at the half way stage in the opening half with a Bobby Doyle beauty and the away side doubled their advantage 2 minutes later when Cormac Walshe lofted over another well struck point after good play by Bobby Doyle.

Clonmore who were showing more productivity when they went on the offensive reduced the margin to the minimum in the 19th minute with a well struck free from full forward Aaron Kelly but after more good work by Shane Redmond Tinryland’s Jamie Walker extended the Tinryland lead to 2 points. Clonmore reduced the margin to the minimum once again with a Dylan Doyle point as Lee Doyle replaced the injured Cormac Connolly. One of the home team’s best players Dylan Doyle struck another good point with 7 minutes remaining before the break but Tinryland finally began to put daylight between the teams with a Matthew O’Toole point and a brilliant 2 pointer from Tinryland wing forward Peter Hennessy. Half Time score Tinryland 0-8 Clonmore 0-6.

When referee Lar Murphy re-started proceedings Clonmore made their intentions known scoring 3 quick unanswered points from Dylan Doyle (2) and Conal Cullen. Matthew O’Toole finally lifted the siege when he raised a white flag after good play by recently introduced substitute James McGrath who had replaced the injured Cormac Walshe. In the 43rd minute McGrath lofted over a brought in free for dissent and when Shane Redmond deflected the ball over the bar at the half way stage following good play by Bobby Doyle and James McGrath Tinryland looked the more likely team to win the league points. A Clonmore point from Aaron Kelly was cancelled by another Jamie Walker point after great play by Conor Ryan. Tinryland were then forced to make another change due to an injury to Matthew O Toole and his replacement Conall O’Shea certainly made an impact scoring the final two points of the match as Tinryland ran down the clock to make sure of reaching the top 4 in the league with 2 games remaining against Eire Og and St Patricks.
