St Patricks defeat Tinryland in Div 5

S.F.L. Division 5

                   St. Patricks 1-12                                                          Tinryland 0-11

The two clubs propping up the Carlow Credit Union division 5 league table provided an entertaining hour of football at Bro. Leo Park on Wednesday last. Tinryland’s 3rd squad and St. Patricks 2nd 15 were both pointless going into this game. The home side by virtue of more efficient use of their possession came out winners by 4 points after both sides had enough chances during the hour to win.

Tinryland were first on the scoreboard when wing forward Darragh Brennan slotted over a point in the 3rd minute but the Tinryland lead was short lived as St Patrick’s full forward Jamie Farnon crashed the ball to the net in the 6th minute. A Shay McCullough point reduced the home teams lead to the minimum and the match was all square half way through the opening half when Eoin Townsend pointed for Tinryland. The remainder of the first half saw further St Patrick’s points from Dean Keogh (2), Tommy Byrne, Oisin Lyons and Cian Gorman-Comerford with Eoin Townsend keeping Tinryland in touch when referee Marion Hayden sounded the half time whistle.

Half time score St. Patricks 1-7 Tinryland 0-4.

The early stages of the 2nd half saw Cathal Lyons for the Slaneysiders and Eoin Townsend trade points as veteran P J Murphy was introduced for the men in blue and white hoops.

Tinryland then upped the ante scoring 3 unanswered points from midfielder Luke Broderick (2) and Cian McCreanor but St Patricks weathered this storm scoring 4 unanswered points from Jamie Farnon, Cian Gorman-Comerford, Tommy Byrne and Conor Murphy.

Tinryland did stage another rally as the clock ticked into stoppage time with 3 further points from one of their best players Luke Broderick.

Outstanding for the winners Allan O’Neill, Conor Brophy, Donal Kelly, Dean Keogh, Cian Gorman-Comerford, Conor Murphy and Jamie Farnon.
