St Lomans Mullingar Club Notes 14/04/2025:

Ladies League Division 1:

St Lomans Mullingar 5-12 Garrycastle 1-04

Our senior ladies recorded their first win of the season last Sunday. Strengthened by the return of their inter-county footballers, the blues bounced back from opening day defeat in style in Athlone. The away side got off to a perfect start with Ciara Blundell hitting 1-01 in the first ninety seconds, before Annie Kilmurray extended the lead on five minutes. The saints should have been further in front and were guilty of overplaying at times and were punished at the other end when the Shannon-siders found the net with their first attack. Another score quickly followed and suddenly there was only a single point between the teams.

The sides traded scores after this with Annie Kilmurray doubling her tally for the visitors. Ciara Blundell then managed to score two goals either side of an excellent point to complete a first half hat-trick to give the Mullingar side a commanding lead at the half-time interval. In truth an eight point lead was no less than Ciaran Kilmurray’s side deserved for their first half endeavours.

The second half began with the home side pointing but it was quickly cancelled out by Vicky Carr’s first score of the afternoon. Caoimhe Kilmurray then netted half-way through the second half to well and truly end the contest. Garrycastle replied to leave a ten point gap with 54 minutes on the clock, which the county champions managed to double in the remaining moments.

Trebles from Vicky Carr and Ciara Blundell respectively, as well as 1-01 from Caoimhe Kilmurray saw the defending league champions run out facile victors. Caoimhe Kilmuray’s last point from long-range was undoubtedly the score of the day. This win gets the Lomans ladies off the mark in the league with many faces still to return later in the year.

There’s no doubt the return of Vicky Carr, Caoimhe Kilmurray, Lara McCartan and Megan Ennis was a huge boost to the side. All four had super games but in truth there were brilliant performances throughout. Ella Daly and Eve Scally put in excellent displays at the back. Annie Kilmurray was excellent at wing-forward and added scoring to her repertoire. However, Ciara Blundell was without a shadow of doubt the player of the match with 3-05 to her name.

Team; Jane McKenna, Eve Scally, Ella Daly, Lara McCartan, Maddie Mulderry, Megan Ennis, Julie McLaughlin, Vicky Carr (0.04), Caoimhe Kilmurray (2.01), Annie Kilmurray (0.02), Grainne Cleary, Aileen Martin, Shauna Traynor, Ciara Blundell (3.05,0.01f), Evie Kilmurray

Ladies League Division 4:

St Lomans Mullingar 0-09 Goldsmith 1-09

Hard luck to our division 4 side who were narrowly defeated in Tang last friday night. The competition has aided a lot of girls on the fringes of the first side, to get some game time before the junior championship. We wish a speedy recovery to Emma Keena and Eimear Doonan, who clashed heads, particularly to Emma who came off second best
