Tinryland 2-17 Old Leighlin 1-7
Tinryland comfortably hoovered up another two league points against Old Leighlin in Rathcrogue on Friday evening. Matthew O’Toole opened the scoring for the home side after 60 seconds following good play by Lorcan O’Connor, Jonah Dunne and Shane Redmond. Old Leighlin then rattled Tinryland when full forward Jamie Doyle crashed the ball past Chris Townsend two minutes later but this was as good as it got for the men from Molaise park in the first half as Tinryland racked up a goal and eleven points without reply between the 4th and 30th minutes. Excellent point taking by Shane Redmond, Jamie Walker, Jonah Dunne, Cormac Walshe, Matthew O’Toole, and Niall Lowry helped Tinryland build a match winning lead and when Walshe deflected the ball past OL goalie Noah Walsh on the stroke of half time after great play by Danny Moran there was only going to be one winner in this game. A feature of the first half was the fielding by ex Co. player Shane Redmond and the class performance by the younger players Ross Moran, Lorcan O’Connor and Jamie Walker together with a good shift from Tinrylands midfielder Conor Ryan and defender Mikey Hosey. Half time score Tinryland 1-12 Old Leighlin 1-0.
When referee Lar Murphy re-started proceedings Tinryland consolidated their advantage after only 30 seconds with a Conor O’Toole point but Old Leighlin finally found some rhythm scoring 3 unanswered points from their outstanding player James Dowling. Jonah Dunne steadied the Tinryland ship in the 40th minute when he converted a free and after sustained possession from the home team Co U20 player Ross Moran drifted in to the forward line to slot over another Tinryland point. James Dowling continued to shine for Old Leighlin and he added another point for his side as Bobby Doyle replaced Matthew O’Toole who had put in an excellent shift for the men in blue and white hoops. More high fielding by Shane Redmond after good play by Niall Lowry and Conor Byrne saw Tinryland score their 2nd goal in the 48th minute and despite further Old Leighlin points from James Dowling and Seamus Kinsella Tinryland had the final say with a Cormac Walshe conversion for a technical foul and a point from substitute Bobby Doyle.
