MLR too strong for Tinryland

       S.F.L Division 3

Mt Leinster Rangers 7-11                                                            Tinryland 0-9

If these two teams were competing in the English soccer league pyramid Rangers 1st team who are in the Carlow senior championship would be a premier division outfit while Tinryland’s 2nd team would be in the 4th tier or league 2. For some weird reason both teams find themselves competing in the 3rd tier of Carlow league football even though MLR are a senior championship team and Tinryland will be batting at Junior B level or tier 4 in the Carlow championship of 2025.

The gulf in class therefore was apparent right from the throw in as the South Carlow team managed by Chris Conway and who defeated Tinryland in last year’s Carlow S.F.C. were motoring from the early stages to lead by 2-3 to 0-3 after fifteen minutes with the Rangers goals coming from Joe Dundon and Jack Cummins.

Glen Doyle was the scorer in chief for Tinryland at this stage contributing all of his team’s points. The 2nd quarter saw Rangers consolidate their advantage with a successful penalty from centre forward Eoin Doyle and another major from corner forward Graham Bolger supplemented with further points from Diarmuid Byrne, Robert Stafford Kyle Nolan and Tim Brennan. Tinryland’s 4th first half point was scored by Eoin Townsend. Half Time score Mount Leinster Rangers 4-7 Tinryland 0-4

When referee Lar Murphy re-started the game Rangers added two quick points to their tally via Eoin Doyle and Diarmuid Byrne before a scoreless period of 14 minutes followed helped by some brilliant goalkeeping from Tinryland’s Darren Murphy. Glen Doyle continued to be Tinryland’s main marksman scoring a brilliant 2 pointer mid- way through the half before MLR put the issue beyond doubt with another successful penalty from Eoin Doyle. Tinryland did try to rally with wind advantage scoring further points from Jamie Walker, and Matthew Gleeson. Both teams finished the game with 14 players with Rangers losing a player through a 2nd yellow card and Tinryland suffering a reduction through a black card.

Mount Leinster Rangers will be back in action on Saturday 12th April away to Rathvilly at 7.30 p.m. while Tinryland’s next outing in division 3 will be a home tie with Fighting Cocks at the same time on 12th April.
