Coláiste Mhuire:
Congratulations to our large contingent of Colaiste Mhuire players who won the North Leinster ‘A’ Second Year Schools final after a hard-fought 2-13 to 0-17 encounter against Coláiste Choilm from Tullamore.
Those lads are Shane Canning, Sean O’Connell, Killian Raleigh, Senan Brody, James McHugh, Cathal Kilmurray, Luke Fitzsimons, Michael Brennan, Matthew Tully and Eoin McGinley.
Congratulations:
Congratulations to our former player and manager Kenny McKinley who was appointed Westmeath U20 football manager this week.
Kenny gave a lifetime of service to the Blues and will always be remembered for playing a starring role at centre back in Westmeath’s All-Ireland minor success in 1995. Incredibly, he represented the Ireland U18 rugby side that year too.
Kenny captained our senior team when we reached the SFC final in 2009 after spending many years in the wilderness. He subsequently managed the senior team in 2011 and 2012 having previously managed successful U21 sides in the club so he played a huge part in the success we have enjoyed in recent years.
More recently, Kenny was in charge when St Malachy’s won the intermediate title in Westmeath in 2023. We wish Kenny all the very best in his new role; no better man for the job.
