Underage ladies update

U14 Ladies season Round up

Like the previous two years before St Lomans had two under 14 teams this year competing in league & championship. It was a tale of two halves of a season with both teams reaching the league finals of division one & five, respectively.

While our division one team were crowned league champions, our division 5 team lost out on the day to a strong Mullingar Shamrocks team, with both teams being promoted to division 4 for championship.

The step up a division proved a hard ask for our very young ladies, eventually losing out to Shandonagh in the quarter finals. With all except two girls’ underage again next year, undoubtedly these girls will return next season aiming to prove a point.

In what was undoubtedly a very competitive division one championship, our girls also fell at the quarter final stage losing out to Athlone by a goal, when the game seemed certain to go to extra time. In what was a very nervous game of football, the girls showed great character coming back from 8 points down at one stage to lead by a point heading for injury time.

For the first time in six seasons, St Lomans Mullingar are not in a division one league final at U14, however players & management will learn from this season & will right those wrongs to return Lomans to the summit very soon. The season continues for a lot of these girls as we have girls involved with under 16 & under 12 so plenty of football still to be played.

U16 Round Up

In a first for the club, we entered two teams in this year’s league & championship, indeed we are the only club in the county to have two under 14 & under 16 teams this year, thus providing as much football as possible to as many girls as possible which is the club’s key missions.

Both teams were crowned league champions (Division one & 5) with our division 5 team moving up the ladder to division 4 for championship. Both teams have picked up where they left off & have qualified for both championship finals

The division one team had a fine victory if somewhat difficult at times over Goldsmith Girls in the semifinal, while our division 4 team were victorious over Mullingar Shamrocks in the semifinal. Both teams now meet Garrycastle in championship finals, which will take place over the coming weeks.

As previous battles have shown against Garrycastle with this group of girls, we expect very tight games where the blues will have to be at their very best if they want to be crowned champions.

Minor Girls

Our minor girls have enjoyed a great start to the championship with three comfortable wins so far & will be aiming to continue that with their last two group games against Loughnavally & Caulry still to be played. While the minor is on hold to allow the adult championships to take place, the girls are in a good place to hopefully reach another final.

On  final  note, in the very first under 16 league game of the season, Jayne Charles & Cliona McGinley suffered season ending injuries. Both girls are progressing well in their recovery & we cant wait to see them back in a blue jersey next season.
