     Tinryland G.F.C. club notes 14th July 2024

Our senior team got a rare opportunity to play competitive football at this time of the year when they took part in the Bro Leo cup tournament with Castledermot, Suncroft and St. Patricks in Tullow last week. In the 1st semi-final Tinryland overcame a 5 point half time defecit to defeat Castledermot by the minimum margin while the host club St Patricks did likewise against Suncroft in the other semi-final. The final played on Saturday last in ideal conditions was a very entertaining affair and in the end the host club St. Patricks coached by Tinryland man Niall Barrett retained the Bro Leo cup by one point thanks to a late goal from their substitute Eoin O’Toole.

Tinryland had good performers in Conor Ryan, Michael Hosey, Mark Mullen, Cormac O’Brien, Cathal O’Toole and Cillian Fagan.

At juvenile level it was a quiet week after the busy 3 weeks when the South East sevens tournament was staged in our club. Our U16 team came up against a very strong Palatine team and after performing well for much of the game they eventually lost out to our neighbouring club on a scoreline of 4-11 to 1-12. The U16 team will be away to Eire Og on this coming Thursday 18th July at 7 p.m. in Pairc Ui Bhrian. Tinryland U12 team will be away to Bagenalstown Gaels on this Tuesday evening in McGrath Park at 7.15 p.m.

A number of our underage players were involved with successful Carlow teams in the past week.

At U15 level Daniel and Oisin Byrne were part of the Carlow squad that defeated Galway by six points on Saturday last. On the same day Mikey Byrne, Calum O’ Brien Murphy, Luke Cahill and Cathal Purcell were part of the Carlow U16 team that defeated Tipperary.

The club lotto jackpot currently stands at €8000 and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday evening draw from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were:   Anne, Tasha and Sinead Lyons, David and Theresa Power, Trish Purcell and Jimmy Lomax.
