St Lomans Mullingar Club Notes 29/04/2024:
ACFL Division 4:
St Lomans Mullingar 2-04 The Downs 2-13
Last Monday night our third side travelled to Kevin Molloy Park to take on The Downs’s second side. The blues were under the cosh from the first minute and were outscored by eight points to one for the majority of the first half. Fola Ayorinde’s free was the solitary score for the away side. The Saints were granted a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when a goalmouth scramble resulted in Niall Dowdall poking home the opening goal, leaving four between the sides at the interval.
The visitors stuck to their task after half-time with Ayorinde on target once more with two excellent scores. However the final quarter saw the hosts pull away with goals from Tadhg Nolan and Shane Carroll. Mulhern and Ayorinde added points for the blues and a late gaol from Ayorinde restored some pride for his team. However in truth the downs ran out deserving nine point victors.
Fola Ayorinde, Shane Boyce and Shane Mulderry were the stand out performers for Lomans but with so many players unavailable it was always going to be a difficult task. We also wish a speedy recovery to Conan O’Hara who broke his hand in the opening minutes and had to be withdrawn. Next up is Garrycastle at home.
