Leinster Club League Final

Our Senior team lost out by 5 points to Thomas Davis’s in the final of the Leinster Club League in Johnstownbridge on Thursday evening. Killoe got off to a bad start conceding 1-1 inside the first two minutes but quickly rectified the deficit with Ryan Moffat bagging a goal to go ahead by one after a quick mark was taken by Mark Hughes. By halftime Thomas Davis were back in front by one point again courtesy of a well taken goal. The Dublin side got their 3rd goal of the game shortly after the restart and opened a 4 point gap between the sides. Once again Killoe didn’t give in and in the 3rd quarter of the game they outscored Thomas Davis’s by 6 points to 1 with scores from Cian Dooner, Mark Hughes, Ryan Moffat & Paddy Kiernan to regain the lead for a second time. Injuries began to take its toll on the Killoe resurgence with Evan Farrelly & Liam Hughes having to be withdrawn. Thomas Davis had regained a slender one point lead in the closing stages of the second half when they hit the Killoe defence with a fast counter attack which earned themselves a penalty. The Thomas Davis corner forward made no mistake with the penalty and they soon followed up with one more score to see home the victory. Full time score: Killoe 1-11 Thomas Davis 4-7. Hard luck to the team & management who despite the loss can be proud in what was a great achievement in reaching the final of the inaugural Leinster Club Football League. Congratulations to Thomas Davis GAA on the win.

Division 1 V Abbeylara

Our Senior team had a quick turnaround from Thursday evenings defeat when they faced Abbeylara on Sunday afternoon in Emmet Park. Killoe got off to the best possible start when Ciaran Donohoe smashed home a fantastic goal after a high ball into the square in the opening minute. A second goal was soon to follow when Ronan McGoldrick hit the back of the net. Abbeylara regained their composure shortly after and scored 4 points without reply before Killoe got points back. At half time Killoe led 2-6 to 0-7 and were in a comfortable position for the second half. Killoe continued the pressure and Eamon Keogh scored another goal to ensure a large deficit between the sides. Abbeylara weren’t giving up though and threatened the Killoe goal a number of times. A combination of good tackling and a save from Shane  Fitzpatrick kept them at bay but eventually Abbeylara hit their mark when Robbie Smyth placed a ball in the bottom corner. Killoe were still well ahead and the game was put beyond doubt when corner back Gavin Hughes finished off a powerful run by blasting the ball past the Abbeylara keeper from distance. At full time the scores read Killoe 4-12 Abbeylara 1-11. Well done to the team & management.
