Welcome to this week’s club news,

Double Disappointment: It was a bad weekend for both our senior and junior B men’s football teams as both exited their championships at the quarter and semi-final stages respectively. On Thursday, in Ballinakill the junior B team were pipped by a point against Tinahely while yesterday in Aughrim our senior team were defeated by Arklow.

Ultimate disappointment, but both teams held their own in their league campaigns and blooded some promising young players. Well done to all team mentors and players for all their work during the year.

Junior A Final Countdown: It’s a big week for our adult ladies footballers. They face Kilcoole on 7 October at 12:30 pm in Bary in the Junior A football final. They made it to the final courtesy of a nail-biting extra-time win over Bray in the semi-final. Read a match report HERE. In the lead-up to the final, you can get to know the girls better by reading the player profiles where we ask them questions ranging from their toughest opponent to who spends the longest in front of the mirror! Social Gaelic Games Get Stuck In: In our club, we pride ourselves on providing Gaelic Games to all ages. This was really exemplified last weekend when both our Dads and Lads and Mothers and Others (G4M&O) groups were in action. Our intrepid G4M&Os crew journeyed to Mayo and were hosted by the local club Parke Keelogues, Crumlin. While our Dads and Lads Group braved the monsoon-like weather to compete in the national blitz in Abbotstown.

Scór Success: Our club’s wide range of activities was also highlighted last week when we participated in the adult finals of the Wicklow Scór competition. What’s more our quartet of entrants won the set dancing competition. Well done to Eamonn Ó Lideadha, Máire Nic Giolla Phádraig, Sarah Keegan, Éamonn Mac Seáin. Comhghairdeas libh go léir!

Minor Boys Football: The minor boys football championship is starting to reach the business end of proceedings at this stage. The lads earned a creditable draw against a fancied Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney team last week. In a high scoring encounter, the final score was Éire Óg, Greystones 5-07: AGB 4-10. Yours in sport,

Daniel English, pro.eireoggreystones.wicklow@gaa.ie
