Welcome to this week’s club news,
Historic achievement by U15 hurlers: For the first time in the club’s history, we are U15 A hurling county champions. This came courtesy of a pulsating victory against Carnew last week. The victory is a great testimony to many years of hard work put in by the team’s players, mentors and families. This is a high watermark for juvenile hurling in the club and we’re looking forward to the continued progress of this talented group of young men. U15 boys football season wrap up for the year: Our U15 boys football management team led by Kevin Healy with support from Eoghan Donlon, Ronan Mellet, Ciaran Marrinan and Orla Finn entered two teams this year, with squads in both the U15 A and C competitions. Significantly, this is the first time the club has entered two teams at this grade. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and successful season. Weekly lotto: Did you know that traditionally, our membership has only accounted for about 30% of our income, the rest we fundraise? Well, know you know, and one way to support our fundraising efforts is to play our weekly lotto. The tickets are just €2. Last week’s winning numbers were 7, 15, 19 & 22. The weekly cash prize winners were Billy Norman and Eoin Fleming. Get your tickets HERE.
Adult ladies footballers go down battling: Our ladies adult footballers might have exited the championship at the semi-final stage last Sunday but they left the field with their heads held high and their hearts full. While they lost out on a scoreline of 2-08:2-05, they gave this match everything they had and more. They made little of the loss of two key players before the match to put in a monumental effort. This team had made major progress this year and we can’t wait to see what they’ll achieve next season.
Sympathies: The club would like to express its sincere sympathies to Olive Farrell on the death of her father Pat Egan. Olive is a valued member of the club as a coach and also serves on the club's executive committee. Her children Emily, Tom and Seán are all heavily involved in the club too. From little acorns: It was a great thrill for our nursery and academy boys and girls and our U8 and U10 camogie teams to get a visit from our victorious U15 A boys hurling team last weekend. The lads gave a great speech, telling them of their memories of starting out at their age. Role models on and off the pitch!
Yours in sport,
Daniel English, pro.eireoggreystones.wicklow@gaa.ie
