Welcome to this week’s club news, Senior footballers push county champions: Our senior (1st adult men’s) football team came close to defeating the reigning county champions St Patrick’s in their first championship game last weekend. A dubious late goal handed the initiative to their opponents. Next up is Avondale on Sunday, 21st July. Read match report HERE.
Weekly lotto: One of the reasons our membership fees are comparatively low compared to other sports clubs in the town is because we work hard to generate funds from other sources, such as our weekly lotto. Last week’s winning numbers were; 2, 6, 8 & 14. While nobody managed to match all four numbers meaning this Monday’s jackpot remains at €12,000, Michael Cawley and Jackie Leahy won the weekly cash prizes. To help us maintain our low membership fees, consider playing the weekly lotto HERE. U13s hurl their hearts out: One of our under 13 hurling teams played away tonight in Glenealy earlier this week. A minute silence was held before the game in memory of Pheliam Byrne, a great Eire Og hurler. Great skills and bravery were on show from both teams in a well fought out contest.
Adult hurling: Our senior adult hurling team got their championship campaign back on track on Tuesday with a welcome victory over Kiltegan. With the scores level at halftime, a strong second half performance saw the team run out winners on a score line of 2-15:0-13. Also in action this week were our junior (second adult’s team) who lost by a single point to Glenealy in a most entertaining match. Yours in sport, Daniel English (englishdaniel@hotmail.com)
