Welcome to this week’s club news.
U14 GIRLS FOOTBALL: Congratulations to Eire Og U14 Girls who won their first round championship match against St. Nick's on a scoreline of 6-12 to 4-10 in a highly entertaining and competitive encounter today. See a photo of the team http://bit.ly/2ccysTR
UNDER 14 HURLING In iomáint at juvenile level, because of the game’s minority status within the county, clubs are forced to amalgamate to ensure the viability of competitions. Éire Óg and Kilcoole have joined together at u-14 and last Thursday travelled to Arklow to play an Arklow Rock/Avondale combination. The Rocks and Avondale have a long history in hurling in the county so the. lads knew, as they set out for the game, that they had a very difficult task on their hands. Sadly, their effort was timed and they lost 5-13 to 5-07.
LOTTO: The winning numbers for Monday the 29 were 3, 20, 25, 26 The main jackpot survived and was 10,600. Daniel English, Bill Downes and Carmel Hepenstall matched 3 numbers and share €200. The jackpot is now €11,000, tickets are just €2. You can get them at https://www.myclubfinances.com/memberships_cart_m.asp?LL_ID=785&intMF_ID=1885
UNDER 16 HURLING: At u-16 the hurling squad includes players from Kilcoole, Na Clocha Liatha and Newtown. Last week this combination took on Michael Dwyers, a district team centred in Kiltegan. The team’s record in this competition has given a deal of satisfaction to its mentors in that it has recorded 3 wins. The northern district squad emerged winners against Michael Dwyers on the score 4-16 to 2-05 in what was, despite what the score might suggest, a closely contested match.
DATE FOR YOUR DIARY: Club marquee social night on Sept 17th, eve of All-Ireland football. Tickets a mere €10 available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/end-of-season-social-night-tickets-27311834432 or from any club member
UNDER 14 FOOTBALL: Wednesday night last saw our u-14 footballers take on St Nicholas, their fellow Cill Mantáin Féile representatives in Ciarraí, at home in the 1st round of the championship. Éire Óg lost by a point but they just could as easily have won by 5 or 6. The ball spent much of its time in Greystones hands in close proximity to the visitor’s goal. Possession may be 9 points of the law but it is of little value in a game if it cannot be turned into scores and on Wednesday Éire Óg were singularly unable to do so.
SYMATHHIES: Éire Óg Greystones GAA club extends itsl deepest sympathies to Juvenile Club Chairman, Kevin Healy, his wife Mary & family Piarais, Daniel, Megan & Emmet on the death of Kevin's mother, Margaret of Derrynane, Co. Kerry.Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam dílis.
