Welcome to this week’s club news
JUVENILE REGISTRATION: Things will also be stirring soon among the juveniles so juvenile registrations will be taking place in the clubhouse on Saturday Feb 20th , 10.00 – 12.00 and on Monday 22nd 18.30 – 20.00. At juvenile level Éire Óg offers the full gamut of Gaelic sports viz. hurling, camogie football and ladies football and believes in the ranges of their skills and in their promotion of athleticism níl a sarú ann mar cluichí. The coiste of the juvenile section is extremely conscious of the need to create a child- friendly, positive and safe environment for the children under its care and to this end it held a seminar titled “Child Protection in Sport” for its coaches. The seminar which took place in the clubhouse was very well attended and was facilitated by Willie Braine.
DINNER DANCE: On a lighter note we call your attention to the fact that the club Dinner Dance takes place in Greystones Golf Club on Friday 11th March and tickets are priced at 35 euro. Last year's Dinner Dance at the same venue, besides being a sell-out, was a wonderful social occasion so early booking is advised. Tickets from Daniel O’Connor at 086 1541260
NATIONAL CLUB DRAW: National Club Draw which has very attractive prizes e.g. an Opel Corsa and for which tickets are reasonably priced at 10 euro ( sellers are reminded that tickets, sold or unsold, must be returned by next Monday). Tickets should be returned to John Keane.
LOTTO: The other is the old reliable Lotto which has a jackpot of 5000 euro going into the draw of Monday 8th. Tickets are 2 euro and may be purchased online at www.eireoggreystones.com. Last week's winning numbers were 16, 22, 26 and 28. Two players, Larry Howard and Kevin Keyes matched 3 numbers and share €200.
CLUB PLAYERS IN COUNTY ACTION: Comhgáirdeachas to the Wicklow football teams on their victories at the week-end. Éire Óg had representatives on both squads: Darren Hayden, Stephen Kelly, Daniel Woods and Sam Thompson on the mens and Lorna Fusciardi on ladies.
COMHBHRÓN The reputation of the Irish as a people who know how to 'do' funerals was fully attested to in the obsequies which attended the death of James Leonard of Banada, Tourlestrane in the county of Sligo. These incorporated at once the grief at his passing and the joyful celebration of his contribution to family and community. His brother Oliver has, over the years, served Éire Óg in many capacities including that of Chairman.
All in Éire Óg extend their sincerest sympathy to Oliver and the Leonard family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam geanúil gealgáireach James.Éire Óg was represented at the funeral by Cathaoirleach John Keane and by Gerry Walsh
Yours in sport,
Daniel English, club secretary
