Welcome to this week’s club news

INDOOR SCHOOLS ACTION: An indoors Gaelic football blitz for scoláirí from 3rd to 4th classes sa bhunscoil organised by Gareth Doyle of Wicklow GAA was run off very successfully and with commendable efficiency on two pitches in the Shoreline Gym on Friday last.

Six schools took part, viz., Moneystown, Newtown, Ashford together with St. Patrick’s, St. Kevin’s and St. Laurence’s from Greystones. The blitz has a seven-a-side, no dead-ball format, with players allowed to pick the ball from the ground and one solo only being permitted. Its purpose was to allow the ninety or so children who participated to experience the joy and invigoration to be derived from the playing of the déanta in Éirinngame: there were no winners of losers on the morning so any urgings were positive. Players were substituted on a regular basis and thus every child got plenty of game time.

CLUB PLAYERS IN COUNTY ACTION: Any member of Éire Óg who has lived through the fallow days of the club in the late 70s and 80s must surely have gazed in deep amaze and with no little incredulity at the Cill Mhantáin team sheet for the Keogh Cup game against Maynooth University: six of the club’s hurlers in the starting fifteen. There was further good news for Éire Óg in that the leadership qualities.

GREYSTONES GUIDE – albeit from different generations – made noteworthy appearances in the media this week. Uachtarán Danny Hatton was featured on local website ‘Greystones Guide’ in a lovely piece about his life growing up and later raising a family in the local area while Eoin O’Neill, long a leading light for Éire Óg on and off the pitch, featured in his professional capacity in the Irish Times with a thoughtful article on problems of flooding in Ireland. Maith sibh beirt.

WEEKLY LOTTO: There was no outright winner of last week’s club lotto. The winning numbers were 6,12,18 and 30. This means that next week’s draw rises to €4,800. You can play, win and help the club by joining the lotto at www.eireoggreystones.com

Yours in sport
