Welcome to this week's club notes

ALL-IRELAND U-21 Congratulations to the Wicklow hurlers on their outstanding achievement in winning the u-21B championship final, which was played against Meath in Thurles on Saturday. This is a first for Cill Mhantáin and gives us great hope for the future prospects of hurling in the county. Éire Óg’s own Anto Byrne was voted Laoch na hImeartha (MotM).

CAILÍNÍ Sunday morning was such as to set a Noah thinking about building an ark. One was surprised, then, to hear from Séamus Aherne that our u-12 girls had travelled to Arklow to play AGB’s second team in the championship. Surely, one though, a borderline case for the ISPCC? The team travelled with great hope having beaten Blessington earlier in the week, 9-7 to 1-9. AGB proved to be much tougher opposition and Éire Óg were lucky to come away with a win on the scoreline of 1-10 to 1-8. The team management was very pleased with the support from the parents, who had to scurry for shelter on a number of occasions. (Conditions were so bad that the referee was forced to stop play for eight minutes at one stage.) The championship is run in league format and the team has yet to play Shillelagh. The top two teams face off in the final.

PEIL Our seniors lost by two points to Rathnew, 0-11 to 0-9, in the Senior Championship semi-final. Having led at half-time by 0-8 to 0-3, this was a very disappointing outcome for the Éire Óg players. However, the lessons learned will surely see this team return stronger and wiser in next year’s competition. Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach.

Yours in sport
