Rowing News:
Next week the Limerick clubs once again host Limerick Regatta & Rowing Ireland’s Irish School Regatta. Racing will be from 8am to 6pm both days with a race every 4 minutes. It’s the busiest two days in the Irish Rowing Calendar.
This year we have the catering gig which is a huge part of our fundraising. We are in need of bakers & shop volunteers to help feed the masses.
We also need slip stewards, launch drivers & boat safety check stewards.
The secret to a great weekends rowing is our amazing volunteers. Let’s continue the success of the 2 regattas by helping out where you can.
Give me a shout if you can help - smrccaptain@gmail.com

Also, the weather has been more than a bit bonkers lately so make sure you're 'covered' for heat or cold - this applies to everyone attending. Anything could happen!

In other rowing news, we’ve taken delivery of a new touring boat which we’ll be using for teaching new rowers, rec rowing & touring trips also. We’re also just finalising an investment in new oars, long overdue, and everyone’s efforts in fundraising is aiding this investment - thank you!!

Social & Fundraising:
After next weekend, we’ll just have time to catch our breath when the GLR kicks off on the bank holiday weekend. Many of us in the club will be competing and also marshalling the race, again raising much need funds for the club.

One week later we are planning to run our Robert Manning & Brennie Murphy sculling challenge. We’re putting the plans in place and will have full details next week. This event is hugely important for the club to not only bring racing to the city but to also remember and celebrate the lives of two former members taken from us all too soon.

Following on from that our Superstar Masters are just finalising the details for a fun packed quiz on Thursday May 17th in Shannon Rowing Club. Brain teasing questions, questionable answers, bumper raffle & spot prizes and the chance to have a few sociables too.

We’re well on our way in ‘Captain Richie’s €10K fundraising challenge’. We’re already approaching the €4 mark! Let’s keep up the outstanding work over the next few weeks.

Oh and there’s the little item of our trip to the British Schools Regatta at the London Olympic venue at Eton Dorney at the end of May. The logistics are almost done & we’re looking forward to taking the show on the road.

"I can’t thank the coaches, athletes, parents & volunteers enough for the great work to date. It’s very much appreciated!" says Captain Richie.

Email Captain Richie if you can help out at any of the events coming up.
