Rio 2016:
Sinead and Claire have made Irish rowing history! They're the first Irish women's crew to make an olympic final and we're all so proud of this achievment. They trained and rowed like heroes to get to this level and even though they're not in the medals, they should be very pleased with their performance, as well as being just the kind of people that make great role models for younger sports people, not just in St. Michael's. Very well done.
The mighty Skibbereen boys Gary and Paul O'Donovan; what new is there to say? Silver medal in Leightweight double and they're also media favourites with their witty banter and casual attitude. So modest and really super guys. Well done the lads!
You can keep up with the latest news and plenty of commentary and pictures from RIO 2016 on our Facebook page, Twitter @smrc_rowing and Instagram stmichaelsrowingclub as well as here.

Masters:
The vets are continuing their training camps in both OBB and in the club for the world masters in early September and training is progressing nicely. More updates to follow. Also don't forget our own Masters event on September 17th. Also, the Junior Rowing Camp is taking place this week.
The Jackpot Prize currently stands at €1,000 and is kindly sponsored by our generous friends at Bowe Dental Clinic. www.bowedentalclinic.ie
Urban Run 2016:
We’re delighted to announce the date of this year’s Urban - October 9th. This is the biggest non-rowing event in our calendar and takes a massive effort. We hope you’ll get on board for the 10k run or 5k run/walk this year. It’s a real family day out for many people, and also a serious event for the high end athletes who compete on Munster’s flattest course. Many PB’s (personal best) are recorded which is a bonus.
We’ve secured a great main sponsor to help with running costs (haha!) and are also looking for smaller sponsor contributions to help offset the considerable expense of running such a large event. There will be a general call for volunteers also, who are vital to the success of the run.
There will be an official launch too and we'll let everyone know when it's coming up.
We look forward to a great day, but for now, all eyes are focused on Sinead, Clare and all Irish athletes in Rio, where it's currently a balmy 30* and clear blue skies. Lovely!
The SMRC lotto is a vital part of our fundraising plans, and in particular for our new slipway project as 100% of the lotto proceeds are ring fenced for this urgent construction. Thanks to everyone who has joined for the first time since the relaunch in January and also to those of you who renewed recently. Every one of you is very welcome.
Thank you all,
SMRC Lotto Committee.
