Another day, another dollar or so they say. Unfortunately, we still have no winner of our jackpot which is standing at €10,600. Perhaps standing is the wrong word as the ‘pot grows and grows each week. Next week the total will stand at €10,700. That would sure make for a great summer! In the meantime the winner of this week’s Lucky Dip is Shauna Douglas. Congratulations Shauna. Each week as a small compensation for no winner I’ll include things like the following: Riddle of the Week: “What month of the year has 28 days?” Last week’s riddle was: “What is it that is full of holes but can still hold water?” The answer was of course… a sponge. Seanfhocail an tSeachtain: “An rud is miste is féidir go cliste” – “The thing that is not allowed can be achieved by cleverness.” A useful thought for any team On This Day: On this day in 1904 James Joyce first met the love of his life, Nora Barnacle who worked as a maid in a hotel in Nassau Street. When writing ‘Ulysses’ he set it on the 16th of June. In honour of that date. Tales of Ó Muircheartaigh: The commentaries on Michael Ó M are the stuff of legend. The dullest of games could be made into cliff hangers by the man’s voice. For a few weeks I’ll include a few of his most famous quotes: “In the first half they played with the wind. In the second half they played with the ball.”
