A Day for Darren in aid of Jigsaw (This Saturday, 3 October!)

A group of Darren’s close football friends have come together to remember him and promote positive mental health, by following in Darren’s footballing footsteps Harry Ryan, Craig Mullen, James McCluskey, Pearse Sheridan, Ned Brunton, Ronan Peyton and Sean Guirke aim to kick points in Gilson Park, then cycle out to Millbrook to take more points. They will then cycle to Dunganny and on to Pairc Tailteann for their next points, before cycling back home to Millbrook, Darren’s spiritual home and where he was happiest. They hope to cover this distance of 111 km in 7 hours, on this Saturday 3rd October, an epic journey. The lads will bring seven footballs, an Oldcastle Gfc ball shows his progress up to the Senior age group. Gilson National School and St. Oliver’s Post Primary School footballs symbolise his football skills on his school teams, while a Meath Minor ball represents his love of his county and the brilliant footballing skills he showed playing on the Meath Minor team. Ballinlough, Moylagh and Mountnugent balls represent his friendships with the lads from these clubs. Of course Darren was also friends with so many more people, and in a normal year we would encourage his large circle of friends to join in. However, with Coronavirus this year it won’t be possible to open the event up to everyone who would have taken part, but we hope that everyone will get involved by focussing on their own mental health, and aiming to thrive, not just survive. The lads are also running this Go Fund Me page; with all proceeds going to Jigsaw. All donations are much appreciated, and will hopefully make a difference in promoting positive mental health for all.
