A bright light went out over Páirc Tomás Ruiséil with the passing of Joe O’Reilly on Monday.
Joe was a leading figure in RGU for several decades, particularly in the various administrative roles he undertook, including a long stint as Secretary as well as being President more recently.
However Joe was more than an administrator, though he excelled at that. He was a mentor and role model to all of us at RGU.
A Dunloy man by birth, he took his adopted county and town to heart and was a great servant to club and county over so many years. A quiet word here and there, his wise words were greatly accepted and appreciated. The respect he commanded throughout the club and indeed throughout the county was immense, and we were truly honoured to have him as a representative of RGU because of the high esteem in which he was held.
He loved every aspect of the GAA and as well as his “grá” for our games he was a driver for the cultural events such as Scór and promotion of our language.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Mona to whom he was so devoted and he was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“ Wee Joe” as he affectionately known was a giant of a man in personality and heart and he will be sadly missed by us all.
To Ann, Kevin, Patricia, Seamus, Sue, Oonagh, Geraldine, Paul and the wider family circle we send our heartfelt condolences.
Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a anam úasal A well deserved and timely win for the U15s as they welcomed Glenn to PTR for a very rare juvenile fixture between the clubs. Played in fabulous sunshine, though with a very welcome breeze the young Hoops put in a big shift to claim the points. Still missing a few due to injury the addition of a few U13s made a very valuable contribution as we ran out winners in what was the final league game of the campaign and we now look forward to the championship. Well done to both U11.5 teams on Sunday. Everyone battled hard to the finish in very challenging conditions. The Section A team had some great passages of play and won against Castlewellan. The Section C team played in an entertaining draw against Bright. Seniors start their ACL Div 2 campaign at home to An Riocht on Friday evening, throw in at 7.30pm. This weeks numbers drawn by Roisin Polly were : 1, 17, 23 and 25. No jackpot winner. Jackpot £5,600 next week. 1 ticket matched 3 numbers to win £100: Kieran Deeny. Many thanks for all your support.
