Our Intermediates got their first win of the season on Saturday as they managed a one point victory over Aran Islands in the Cahill Cup, following a big comeback in the second half. We trailed 1-11 to 0-3 at half time, but we used the aid of a stiff breeze to stage a major turnaround. We had some brilliant performances from Sean Meenaghan, Ronan Higgins and a great last 15 minutes from sub Daniel Garvey. We can still qualify for the semi-final of the competition if we beat Athenry in our next game. There is a possibility the u-21 County Final could be played this weekend, keep an eye on facebook page for an announcement on a fixture during the week. Our under 16s lost by 2 points to our neighbours Caherlistrane last Tuesday. We were to score first through a Thomas Newell point but Caherlistrane equalised within a few minutes and continued to reply to points from Mike O Brien(2) and Darren Higgins. Caherlistrane were to get a goal just before half time to which we replied with a Conor Walsh point to leave the half time score 1 04 to 0 05 in their favour. We were to get the ideal start to the second half when Louis McGeehan palmed to the net from a Conor Walsh cross. Caherlistrane dominated the next 10 minutes and scored 3 points without reply to open up a 2 point gap but even though we replied with points from Louis and Conor Walsh they cancelled those out with 2 of their own to win on a scoreline of 1 09 to 1 07. The loss puts us in the Shield final. The minors lost away to Ballinasloe on a scoreline of 5-5 to 0-12 in the league. The result means they play St. Brendans' in the Shield Final. The u-14s play Salthill/Kncoknacarra in Headford in the league this Friday at 7pm.
