The u-21s take on Caherlistrane this Sunday at 5pm in Tuam Stadium in the North Board Championship Final. This is a huge game for the club as not only is it a final but we are playing our nearest neighbours and biggest rivals. All support would be greatly appreciated as we look to win our first silverware at u-21 level since 1998.

Our Intermediates were unlucky to lose out to Caltra in their second Division 3 league game last Sunday. It was a tight first half and despite having the breeze and performing well throughout the pitch we trailed 0-6 to 0-5 at half time. Niall Meenaghan, Niall Cunningham, Michael Day and Evan Flynn were among our scorers. The tight and edgy nature of the game continued into the second half but we still couldn't quite get on even terms with the Senior side, Caltra keeping us at bay right up until 2 minutes from time when scores from Evan Flynn and Richie Fahy finally drew us level. The momentum was with us at this stage and when sub Aaron MacDonagh fired over a long range score to make it 0-12 to 0-11 we looked to going home with the 2 points. However, a lobbing shot dropped short from the Caltra full forward and we failed to deal with it, the ball ending up in our net after a goalmouth scramble. Caltra tagged on another point to seal the win. Our performance certainly deserved more but the result leaves us with 2 losses from 2 in the league. Evan Flynn, Kevin Carey and Ronan Higgins were outstanding in a good team performance. Our next game is at home vs Aran Islands in our second game in the Cahill Cup this Saturday at 1pm.

Best wishes and speedy recovery to Fintan Joyce after a very unfortunate arm injury during our Junior B game last Friday evening. As a result of Fintan's accident the game vs Oranmore will now be replayed at a later date.

The minors got their league campaign back on track with a 2-17 to 2-11 win over Kilkerrin/Clonberne last Friday. The game started very even between the teams, point for point. A Headford goal sent the lads into the lead. James O'Brien sent in a ball to Niall Keane slipped it to Jack Fleming and he put it in the top corner. Headford began to take control, a second goal coming from Cathal Newell. Looking in control Headford then let the home team back into it as they got two goals before half time, 2-7 to 2-6 at the break. Second half was saw less goals, but plenty of points. Scores from Geoffrey Corbett, Dylan Cunningham, James O'Brien Cathal Newell and Niall Keane allowed Headford to pull away. The defence were brilliant again in the second half, not allowing Kilkerrin get the goals they needed. Best for Headford on the day were Sean Moran, Dylan Cunningham and Cathal Newell. Their next game is away to Ballinasloe this evening (Wednesday) at 7pm.

Our u-16's came out the right side of a ding-dong battle with Salthill/Knocknacarra on Monday in Headford. Sathill started far the brighter and looked to be running away with the game, 1-5 to  no score up after 10mins. Amazingly however, we lead by four points at half time, our hunger to the ball improving after our bad start. 2 goals from Conor Walsh, added to another goal from Louis McGeehan and points from Eoghan Halloran & Mike O'Brien left it 3-5 to 1-7 at the break. Once again the momentum swung back to Salthill at the start of the second half and after a string of points we stopped the run with more scores from the boot of Conor Walsh & Mike O'Brien. Conor Walsh eventually finished with a total of 3-2 in what was an outstanding performance. Mike O'Brien was another who played very well, alomg with midfield partner Darren Higgins who all but sealed the win with a fantastic solo goal. Niall Egan returned after a long term injury and showed what we were missing with a great point towards the end of the game. Despite conceding 2-13 our defence was actually quite solid throughout, our score of 5-10 showing the entertaining nature of the game. Our next game is away to near neighbours Caherlistrane next Tuesday 28th.
