Hard luck to the Galway u-21 team in the Connacht Final. But well done to Michael Day and Dylan Corbett who represented the club so well on the day, with two fantastic performances.

The league campaign gets underway for both our adult sides this weekend. The Intermediates make the long trip to the Aran Islands on Saturday to start their Division 3 season after being promoted last year. Throw in time is at 1pm. On Sunday the attention turns to the Junior B's, who also got promoted last season to Division 5. They take on Annaghdown in Creggs, time to be confirmed.

The Galway Senior Football Panel are holding an open training session in our grounds on Thursday at 7pm. All in the parish are encouraged to attend this rare opportunity to see the best in the county in action at training.

A 2-14 to 0-10 victory over Dunmore last Monday saw our u-21 team through to a North Board Final. Conditions were perfect for football in Tuam. The early exchanges between the sides were tight and after 15 mins the scores were level, Alan Meenaghan with two fine frees from close to the sideline. We took a stronghold in both attack and defence towards the break with some excellent defending from full back Darren Moran and Kristopher Cunningham at corner back. The forwards started to score freely with Geoffrey Corbett and Stephen Monaghan adding Alan Meenaghan's frees. we lead 0-10 to 0-4 at half time. Dunmore came out looking to strike back in the second half and indeed had the first couple of scores before Cathal Newell setup Alan Meenaghan for the game's opening goal. Dunmore came straight up the pitch and looked to have bagged a goal of their own, only for an outstanding stop from Richard Joyce. Dunmore were struggling to get back into the game after this as every score they got was followed quickly with one from Headford. When James O'Brien's dropped shot fell to Stephen Monaghan to punch to the net the game was all but over. There was a mini-revival from Dunmore after this but without a goal the result never looked in doubt. An excellent controlled performance all round from our team. Outstanding performers for us on a day when it was a team win were Richard Fahy, Mikey Day, Darren Moran and Alan Meenaghan. Up next are neighbours Caherlistrane in what will be a derby Final.

Our minors lost out to Williamstown last Wednesday in their second game of the league, on a final scoreline of 1-9 to 1-5. We started brightly with Cathal Newell bagging 1-1 inside the first fifteen minutes. But in truth Williamstown dominated the half and we were lucky to go in level at half time 1-3 to 0-6. Darragh Doherty was forced to make a great save before Geoffrey Corbett levelled with a fine score just before the break. We took control in the possession stakes for large parts of the second half but failed to put that dominance on the scoreboard. Williamstown were far more economical in front of goal and started to win some of the key battles around the pitch towards the end of the game. Despite scores from James O'Brien and Cathal Newell, Williamstown ran out deserved winners, finishing the game off with a fine goal. In a game where many players were not up to their usual standard, Conor O'Malley at centre back, Geoffrey Corbett and Dylan Cunningham were the standout players for Headford, who play St. Brendans' in their next league tonight (Wednesday) in Headford.

Our under 16s got their league campaign off to a winning start with victory over Caltra at home in testing conditions last Tuesday. We lost the toss and faced the wind for the first half. However we were to get off to a great start when Louis McGeehan finished a high ball into the goalmouth by Sean Monaghan to the net. We added on 2 further points from Conor Walsh and Mikey O Brien before Caltra got 2 points of their own. A Conor Walsh goal and a Louis McGeehan point put us 7 points up before Caltra scored 2 further points to leave the half time score 2 03 to 0 04 in our favour. Mike O Brien dominated the first 10 mins of the second half scoring 1 04. Further points from Conor Walsh, Eoghan Halloran, Darren Higgins, Alan Toher, Thomas Newell and a goal from Louis McGeehan saw us win comfortably. Caltra tried gallantly to get on the scoreboard in the second half but our defence stood strong. Overall a good team performance for our first game but plenty still to work on. Next up is an away trip to Athenry, which took place last night, full report in next week's notes.

The u-14s start their league campaign at home vs St.Michaels' at 7pm on Friday in Headford.
