Thanks to all who attended our club social in the Claregalway Hotel last Saturday. Well done to all the players who received Junior A & B medals for 2013 and congratulations to our award winners - Fintan Joyce (Junior A Dedication Award), Sean Gillon (Junior B Dedication Award) & Justin Ryan (Clubman of the Year). 

 

Under 21

Our U-21’s started their championship with a comprehensive 1-14 to 0-5 win over Caltra in Headford on Saturday. Caltra had the backing of the wind in the first half but by half time we were ahead, 1-5 to 0-4. We started strongly and took an early 1-3 to 0-0 lead.  Our goal came after the Caltra keeper spilled a high ball and Alan Meeneghan was on hand to finish to the net. Alan, Padraic Cunningham and Dylan Corbett kicked the points. Caltra started to find their range and kicked three unanswered points. Simon Varley and Caltra’s centre forward swapped scores before Padraic Cunningham finished the first half scoring.               Headford signalled their intent right from the second half throw in as Dylan Corbett fed Niall Cunningham, who fired over from forty yards out. James Walsh then split the posts after being set up by Padraic Cunningham and it was obvious we were heading for a big win. Caltra’s solitary score came from a free by their full foward. James O Brien, James Walsh, Niall Cunningham (2), Mikey Day Padraic Cunningham and Steve Monaghan completed the scoring. The foundation for this win was laid at midfield where Mikey Day and Dylan Corbett dominated throughout. Daniel Garvey was excellent at full back, while Kristopher Cunningham, James O Brien, Steve Monaghan, Padraic and Niall Cunningham were in great form. Full forward James Walsh is the only one on the team that’s over age next season which is a great sign.              Team- Richard Joyce, Darren Hannon, Daniel Garvey,  Thomas Conneely, Kristopher Cunningham, Darren Moran, James O Brien (0-!), Dylan Corbett (0-1), Mikey Day(0-1), Simon Varley (0-1), Steve Monaghan(0-1), Niall Cunningham(0-3), Alan Meeneghan (1-1), James Walsh(0-2), Padraic Cunningham(0-3).
