Our Junior A Championship game vs Carraroe finally went ahead last Friday evening but due to an unfortunate injury to a Carraroe player the game had to be abandoned early in the second half. We wish the player a speedy recovery. The game is now rescheduled for this Friday at 6:30pm in Pearse Stadium.
Junior B's went top of the Division 4A league table after a hard-fought victory over neighbours Caherlistrane last Wednesday.
Our first half performance was outstanding. As the sun shone overhead, the battle between the teams overheated on a couple of occasions also. But, in between the scuffles, it was the boot of Paraic Walsh that was doing all the damage on the scoreboard. He scored an astonishing 12 points in the first 30 minutes, much of them from play as our passing and moving in our midfield and forwards created the openings for Pat. The score at half-time was 0-14 to 1-2 in our favour, with our other 2 points coming from Shane O'Neill.
Our second half performance was less polished as we dropped deep defending the lead and the home side began to get a grip on the game. We could only manage 1-3, with a Christy Day goal coming early in the half. It was credit to our 6 backs that we held on for victory as Caherlistrane were on top for most of the second half but still only scored 1-5.
Overall a great team performance which has put us a step closer to a league semi-final.
Best for us were Paraic Walsh, who finished with 0-13, Shane O'Neill, Noel Gibsey, Ger Flynn & centre back Ronan Browne.

Team - Kevin Lee, Cathal Thornton, Steven Nally, Ger Fahy, Ger Flynn, Ronan Browne, Ronan Higgins, Ronnie Biggins, Shane O'Neill, Seamus Durkin, Noel Gibsey, Stephen Monaghan, Justin Ryan, Christy Day, Paraic Walsh.
Subs - Sean Gillon, Ger Lee, Tom Corbett, Jason O'Sullivan, Charles O'Sullivan, Eoin McHugh, Johnny Leahy.
Junior B’s play their first round Championship game vs Tuam Stars this Sunday. That match is fixed for 11.30am in Caherlistrane.

Minors play Mountbellew/Moylough in the Championship at 8pm this evening (Wednesday) in Mountbellew.
U-16’s claimed the division three league title at a sunny Tuam Stadium on Tuesday evening. The final score-line read 4-10 to 3-9. Headford travelled with just fifteen players so it was just as well they were playing 13-a-side. The opening quarter was fairly tame as we trailed 1-1 to 0-3. Our scores came from Cathal Newell (2) and the lively and well tanned Luke Costello. Just minutes after a Cathal Newell penalty hit the crossbar, we got the break we needed. James O Brien sent a skyscraper into the Williamstown goalmouth which the goalie fumbled and Cathal was on hand to send it to the back of the net. Danny Shaughnessy’s hard work paid off as he split the posts and with half time approaching we got our second goal. Conor O Malley, who was outstanding throughout, broke up a Williamstown attack and sent the ball long to our forwards where Luke Costello was on hand to rattle the onion bag. This meant we faced the second half with a 2-4 to 1-3 lead. We started the second half well with points from Luke and James but Williamstown weren’t willing to give up and they soon had the lead reduced to just two points. However Headford hit a purple patch and scored 2-4 to lead 4-10 to 2-7 with time running out. These scores came from Jack Fleming (1-1), Danny Shaughnessy (0-1), Cathal Newell (0-2) and Luke Costello (1-0). Williamstown finished strong but it wasn’t enough. Well done to the management of Declan Newell and Rory Corbett and all the players on this great achievement.
Team- Darren Higgins, Conor O Malley, Sean Moran, Niall Keane, Dylan Cunningham, Geoffrey Corbett, James O Brien (0-1), Jack Fleming(1-1), Kevin Dooley, Cathal Newell(1-4), Danny Shaughnessy(0-2), Luke Costello(2-2), Darragh Moran. Subs- Mikey O Brien, Frank Moran
Well done to James O’Brien & Cathal Newell who represented Galway North in the Ted Webb competition over the weekend vs Sligo.
Our u-14’s had an eventful week as on Thursday they won the Championship Semi-Final with a great performance and victory over Carraroe. They then went on to Tuam Stadium on Sunday to contest the final vs St.Michaels. Unfortunately their great run came to an end against a physical, skilful team.
All is not lost for this team however as they have a County Shield Final to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Thanks to all who came to Tuam Stadium to support the team, it was fantastic to see a big Headford contingent there.
