Junior A’s play round 2 of their Championship this weekend vs Carraroe, with the game fixed for Friday evening at 7.30pm in Moycullen.
Junior B’s had a fine win over Menlough at home last Friday to make it 4 wins from 5 in the league. We dominated the first half but weren’t clinical enough in front of goal and only led by 3 points at half time, 0-10 to 1-4, when the gap should have been wider. Our scores came from a well taken 45 from Shane O’Neill who later had to go off injured, 3 scores from Ronnie Biggins and scores from sharpshooter Paraic Walsh, Noel Gibsey and Christy Day, who had an excellent first half at full forward. The second half saw us far more economical in front of goal and having far less wides than in the first period. We stretched our lead with points from Justin Ryan and Fergus Collis before we hit the killer blow through a bullet goal from Paraic Walsh, who finished with a total of 1-6, after a good move from the forwards. Despite a fine point from sub Simon Varley, we missed some chances near the end of the game which could have seen us win by more but overall were happy to take a 1-16 to 1-6 victory. Best for us were Paraic Walsh, Ronnie Biggins, Noel Gibsey and Eoin McHugh.

Hard luck to Richard Fahy, Darren Moran, Dylan Corbett and Padraic Cunningham who were all part of the Galway Minor Squad that had an agonising extra time loss to Mayo last Sunday in the Connacht Championship. Darren started at centre back with Richard at midfield, while Dylan came on midway through the second half and all three can hold their heads up high after performing very well for their county. Darren and Richard grew into the game and could be included in Galway’s best 3 players along with Eoin McCormack. Dylan defended valiantly after coming on, while Padraic will hopefully get his chance next year as he is underage again.
It’s been a great journey and a great experience that unfortunately has come to a premature end for the lads, but hopefully they can have an impact for the club in the Minor and possibly Junior Championships later in the season.

The minors play the first round of the Championship this evening (Wednesday) at 8pm in Claregalway. All support greatly appreciated.

First round of the u14 championship saw us travel to Glenamaddy/Glinsk. Ideal conditions didn’t show on the score board as at half time we were down 1-2 to 2. Our scores came from Niall Egan and Thomas Doyle. The first half glenamaddy played all the football. Only for defending from Cian Doherty, Gavin Lee, Casper and William Moggan Glenamaddy would have been out of sight. Half time couldn’t come quick enough as our great defending was being punished by bad ball into the forward line. Second half we came out fighting but Glenamaddy scored first. Our lads finally got going after this however and a long ball from Mikey O’Brien bounced over the corner back and fell to the hands of Thomas Doyle who put the ball into the too corner from 13 yards. Glenamaddy then got another point which proved to be theyre last. The introduction of Ciaran Flaherty turned the game as he got the ball 40 yards out took on his man and got a score that lifted the team. Darren Higgins and Mikey o Brien worked very hard in midfield all game and took a point each next to make it 1-5 to 1-4 in our favour. Conor Walsh then added a point with a fine solo run. Thomas Doyle started to get on the ball, scoring a great point and then setting up Ciaran for the point of the game. He got the ball near the corner and riffled the ball over the bar on his weaker side. The game ended 1-8 to 1-4 in Headford’s favour. Best for us were Gavin Lee, Casper and Ciaran Flaherty who change the game when introduced.
They play St. Gabriels’ next with that game due to be played next Tuesday.
