Our Juniors played Killererin in the North Board final on Saturday in Corofin. We had a slow start but the teams were level 0-3 apiece with half time approaching. Killererin then tacked on three late points with the wind to take a 0-6 to 0-3 lead into the break. The early loss of full back Dylan Cunningham to injury was a huge blow to our chances.
Killererin stretched their lead to 0-8 to 0-3 after the break before a hat trick of points had us back within two points, 0-8 to 0-6, and we were well on top at this stage and looking likely to push on. Just minutes later however, everyone present witnessed one of the most ridiculous black cards since that rule was first introduced. Full forward Sean Birmingham was wrongly forced out of the game for ten minutes and Killererin were handed a huge advantage which they duly accepted, kicking 1-2 while they had the extra man. There was no way back for us after that. Killererin took the win on a 1-12 to 0-10 scoreline and we wish them all the best in the county final.
Huge thanks to Neil Walsh and his management team for the unbelievable effort they have put in all year and hopefully they will be back in the hot seat against next year.
