Intermediates played Kilkerrin/Clonberne on Friday evening in Tuam Stadium in their first championship game, losing by a point, 1-10 to 2-8.

After an easy win over the same opposition in a league relegation play-off and with the controversy over their star players transfer, a backlash was expected.

We started brightly with a Padraic Cunningham point before James O Brien hit the post when one on one with the keeper. Then K/C were awarded a soft penalty which they scored. We were dominant throughout the rest of the half but the scoreboard didn't reflect it. Daniel Garvey and Padraic Cunningham were unlucky not to find the net with further goal chances and it took a Cunningham goal with the last play of the half to give us a deserved half time lead of 1-6 to 1-3. Our other point scorers were Daniel Garvey, Stephen Casey, Geoffrey Corbett, Alan Meeneghan and Mark Earnor.

Reece O Toole extended our lead to four points after the break before K/C hit a purple patch. Luckily for us they hit a number of wides, we weathered it and were 1-9 to 1-6 ahead at the water break. Unfortunately the scores dried up after that and poor defending from us let K/C's most dangerous forward, Conor Rabbitte, set up what turned out to be the winning goal. A Geoffrey Corbett point left the bare minimum between the teams before Niall Meeneghan was unlucky not to equalise as his effort just curled outside the post. We were then denied a blatant free and a chance to grab a draw, when the ball was picked off the ground but the ref waved play on. Niall and Alan Meenghan were our other scorers in that half. With a huge turnover of experienced players since last years championship, this season was always going to be a tough one. We play Aran Islands next week where a win is vital to keep our championship hopes alive.

U-19's are away to Menlough/Padraig Pearses this evening, Wednesday at 7.30pm.

U-17's are away to Gael na Gaillimhe on Sunday morning at 11.30am.

U13's played Shrule/Glencorrib in a challenge last week and play Oranmore/Maree away this Friday evening in a quarter final at 7pm.

U-9's played Shrule/Glencorrib last Wednesday evening and at the weekend they took part in a blitz with Corofin and Annaghdown.
