Division 3 League:Kilconly 1-14Headford 2-15Our intermediates followed up on last weeks performance against Claregalway and earned a deserved 4 points victory away against senior outfit Kilconly yesterday. We started this game brightly and despite being against the breeze by the 20th minute we had built up a 1-8 to 0-3 lead. Niall Meenaghan opened the scoring following up on good work by James O'Brien. We went 3 up soon after with a Shane Walsh effort and a free from Niall before Padraic Moran pulled one back for the home side on the break. We then kicked 3 more points, two from Shane and a lovely score on the turn from Alan Meenaghan. Kilconly again replied with a point from Marsden. Reece O'Toole raiding from corner back kicked our next score and Paraic Walsh neatly finished from the left wing only for Alan Flaherty to respond straight from the kickout. We then got our first goal. Excellent work from Alan and Niall inside led to a save by the Kilconly defenders and keeper only for Paraic to knock the rebound to the net. At that point Kilconly looked in trouble but to their credit up the tempo and 3 points on the spin from 2 Michael Murphy frees and another Moran effort left it 1-8 to 0-6 at half time.Kilconly started the second half as they finished the first and Murphy narrowed the gap to 4 from a free and John Kerrigan left a major between the sides with a well taken point. We then kicked two of our own a nice kick from diatance from Shane and another Niall free. Kilconly kept coming at us and scored four points from Paul Mannion who was kept quiet all evening by a combination of Dylan Corbett and Daniel Garvey, Murphy with two and Marsden all from play with only another free from Niall in response leaving it 1-11 to to 0-12. But just as the Kilconly team thought they might get something from this game we caught them on the break and super work from a number of players we caught them on the break and Alan set up James who bundled the ball to the net after a lung bursting run from midfield to support the attack. Next up was two super efforts from Sean Meenaghan to put us seven up with Murphy keeping Kilconly hanging on with one from play in between. Again Kilconly like the first half came at us again when maybe we thought we had the job done. Murphy finished a penalty into the left corner and followed up with another free with time running out to leave a goal between thw sides. We had the final score of the game after a Michael Day shot was blocked Niall Cunningham stepped up to slot the 45 leaving us with another 2 points on the league table
