After a 7 week gap from competition the Intermediate team were back in action last Friday night under lights in Loughgeorge where they had a commanding 2-12 to 0-4 win over St. Brendan's in Division 4 of the league. We started the game brightly, creating a goal chance inside the first 2 minutes which went narrowly wide. Michael Day kicked 2 points with his weaker left foot either side of a Niall Meenaghan score as we raced into an early lead before the Ballygar side gave us a scare as a shot came back off the crossbar. Sean Meenaghan then added a free before a fine move ended with Cathal Newell being fouled inside the box. Our goalkeeper Clive O'Sullivan duly stepped up and converted the resulting penalty. Dylan Corbett rounded off our scoring in the first half with a finely taken point. We left for the dressing room firmly in control, 1-7 to 0-1 the score at half time. There was little or no let up from Headford in the second period, as although St. Brendan's attacked us at the beginning of the half we kept the scoreboard ticking over, namely with points from Sean (2) and Niall Meenaghan. Despite being wasteful with some chances in the second half our play was quite impressive with our support play working well throughout. Mike Day added his third point and Richard Fahy got himself on the scoresheet before the impressive Cathal Newell setup Niall Meenaghan for our second goal which well and truly killed the game as a contest. It was a solid team display after a long layoff and our defensive play was particularly impressive, with Daniel Garvey, James O'Brien & Eoin McHugh, along with the rest of the defensive unit, working extremely hard to keep St. Brendan's out throughout the game.
The result leaves us with 8 points from 5 games and 3rd in the league table with 4 games to go, the next of which is fixed for next Saturday 20th August away to Claregalway.

Team - C O'Sullivan, R Higgins, D Garvey, K Carey, P Joyce, E McHugh, J O'Brien, M Day, D Corbett, N Meenaghan, S Walsh, Evan Flynn, C Newell, S Meenaghan, R Fahy. Subs used - Eric Flynn, F Joyce, J Keane, E Hannon, B Carey, C O'Malley.
Hard luck to Galway Minor Hurling Manager & Headford resident Jeffrey Lynskey and all of his players following their All-Ireland Semi-Final defeat to Tipperary in Croke Park last Sunday.
